Question: Was it necessary for everybody to wang chung that night, or would it have been ok if just a few did?

Like if say only 60% of the people there wang chunged that night, do you think that would have been enough? 70%? Or did it literally have to be everybody?

Please explain your answer
 
Like I picture one guy standing in the corner not wang chunging, and everyone else being like why isn't this working? And then they notice him and they are like hey buddy you gotta wang chung tonight or why tf are we even here?
 
I’m not sure they all wang chunged. I mean the singer told them all too, but who knows if they all complied. Of course if you ask the guy, he’s going to say everyone wang chunged because he doesn’t want to look like a loser.

This makes good horse sense to me
 
I am sure he had good reasons to demand the chunging.

Side note: Back when this song was a hit I was working at a top 40 radio station (production assistant, general go-fer). The Wang Chung guys were in for an interview when they were in town for a tour. I walked by them in the hallway on their way out and our music director introduced me to them. They just kept walking and did nothing. No nod. No 'hi'. Nothing.

The bigger issue, for me at least, is the correlation between wang chunging and having fun...the inference is that they both are dependent on each other, as if everyone who Wang Chungs is going to enjoy it, and you are not having fun unless you are Wang Chunging...

I resent the entire inference, and choose to find my fun elsewhere and have no part in Wang Chunging...

I don't know what "that night" is supposed to mean.
These guys have been Wanging Chung 2-3 hundred times a year since 1980.
That said, in their prime, 60 -70% sounds about right. Bad hips, knees, and backs have probably hurt the numbers.
And sure, this fuck is barking a lot of orders in that song, but he's nice about it. I respect that.

"Wang Chung like no one is watching". Me.

I think as long as all the chung gets wanged, who does what and to what degree kind of comes out in the wash.
