Things don't look good on the doghair finish, guys. I don't get it. I did several o these on test boards and they came out fine. I think the problem is that the stuff sticks in certain cut grains and not in others.

Not sure what to do. Shoulda left well enough alone.
 
Here's the plan. Antique white. It's not quite there yet but getting close.

It hides a multitude of mistakes. Makes life much easier.
Still haven't decided 100% if I'm gonna leave it white or use that as a primer for a color.

Regardless, I need a couple more coats of white. The shellac is so freaking thin going on, it just barely builds at all. That's harder when it's also a sealer/filler/primer. That needs a little bulk to fill the pores.
