Walnut Hollowbody Build

A: Piezo in the bridge to go with the single neck pup?

B: Maybe get Bryan to wind you some fat single coils with mini humbucker covers? If Bryan can't do that, I believe Pete at Vintage Vibe will.

C: Single coil pups with no covers? Bryan should be able to cut bobbins to any size.

D: Pure 90 bridge with v60 or strat p90? Or Pure 90 bridge with a mini bucker, like the Wildkat!

I vote B or D

Humbucker sized P90s?

Like theGibson P94 or SD Phat Cats.

Humbuckers "hang" on the two screws through the ring.
The ring just needs a good perch on the top with the screws in the 4 corners.
I think some guitars have shims on the inside to give those 4 screws a bit more to bite into.

I'll keep thinking about it.
Truth is, any one of a dozen pickups would sound fine.
It may well come down to me finding a good deal on something.

Right now my more pressing deal is the top.
Mrs G and I were looking at it last night and her observation was that, with the quarter sawn wood on the headstock, I should also use quarter sawn on the top.

I could do that, but it will require probably three pieces. There's not a ton of straight quarters in walnut, so I'd have to slice out several narrower pieces and join them up.

The first two pieces of the body coming together. The joint is looking pretty good. A few more strokes with the plane and it'll be ready to glue.
These two are part of the back. The left piece is the center.

Now I have to think about some design details on the body.
Was discussing this with my kid today, talking about controls.
F hole, control plate on the front or access panel on the back?
I'm kinda leaning towards a control plate on the front. Maybe chrome.
Working on a tele is so easy because of that panel. It's very tempting.

And, I'm debating doing a single cateye f hole.

F-holes are tricky. I have seen some that are artwork in and of themselves, yet don't belong on the guitar they find themselves. I think a cat eye f-hole would be awesome if done tastefully. If not, it could be a gaudy disaster. I say go for it with the understanding that you have the right to take a mulligan right up to the point where you start removing wood.

Are there any resonance issues having a "plate" attached to the hollow body? I see how the tele plate would be appealing when you consider the frustrations involved in hollow/semi-hollows and the swapping/troubleshooting of electronics.

Hmmmmm

Same tailpiece even.
I'm just pointing this out. Not making a judgement.
Are you being influenced? Or are under the influence?

I kinda like it.

I have issues with the toggle switch. Other than that, I actually really like it. I am a sucker for mini buckers though.
