Vanilla, Chocolate or Strawberry

Wife's family makes a punch with orange sherbet and 7 up.

"I love a good rootbeer float but white rum would be all wrong."

So, what would be all right?

Something like a spiced rum would prolly work well with the rootbeer.

My thinking was that rootbeer already has a pretty strong flavor profile, and white rum is not going to conflict with that. Spiced rum is flavored with vanilla and cinnamon and allspice, which might go great with rootbeer (you don't know until you try, right?), but also might clash. White rum is a neutral spirit, but not as neutral as vodka, it still has a bit of flavor. It gives a kick and a bit of taste, without overpowering the drink.
