IIRC, that's what happened to Evil Knevel's attempt at jumping Snake River Canyon many years ago. The chute deployed at launch, but didn't rip away. It just drug him down the side of the canyon.

I’ve been trolling flat earthers for a while. It’s great sport. Mad Mike was more of a stunt guy than a flat earther. He was building rockets before this latest FE popularity. He needed money for his “project” and flat earthers sent money in exchange for some publicity. I don’t wish death on anyone, but Mike was one of the more down to earth people of that bunch.

I have a hard time being sympathetic here. Whether he believed the FE nonsense or not, he helped propagate willful ignorance and science denial to fund his own campaign of idiocy. Shame on Discovery Networks for giving this asshat a huge platform. His story was only ever going to end one way. Fuck that guy.

The guy who went and did this, Discovery Channel (unless they were going to do a show on ignorance and mental health issues and talk about that aspect of this story. Not that know the guy had any diagnosed mental health stuff, just really?), the Science Channel apparently (how about we cover actual science and not freak shows/car (or rocket) wrecks?). All of it.
