The World Cup Thread.....

Pretty good goal by Slovenia..this also means that England really have to beat Algeria tonight to get clear of the USA..a draw against Slovenia in the last game would then be good enough to get out of the group. I think. :embarrassed:

Jeesus freaken bagel shit - he was offside!!!

For the 2nd goal?

A win for the Slovaks would leave the group looking like:

USA on 1 point
Slovakia on 6
England on 1
and Algeria on 0

So if England won tonight Algeria would be out and England would only need to draw (or have the US drop points against Algeria) to go through.

Wtf is wrong with the USA's attacking midfielders and strikers btw? Don't they realise that the world cup isn't the place to be pulling petty "I'm so awesome I',m not going to pass to anyone else" type shit?

Great game earlier too. i was hoping things would get a bit more interesting after the 1st round of games and so far weve had greece beat nigeria, mexico beat france, serbia beat germany and possibly slovakia take down the US so it's certainly been more interesting than last weeks snoozefest. :thu:

For the 2nd goal?

My first thought he was when it was live playing. Then when they show the highlight, they show the shaded part of the field before the passer releases the ball. It's so close to really call and that is why the AR (flagman) is there.

Regardless whether he was or wasn't - USA got beat.

WTF???

People here in the office are yelling and screaming like they actually give a damn about soccer. :embarrassed:

should be 3-2 in favor of US. Unbelievably bad call by ref. Only penalty was on the Slovenia player for the bear hug.

Balls it was a goal.

The Slovenian that was holding the US player wasn't directly interfering with the play whereas the Yank that was holding the Slovenian behind those 2 (which also happened to be closer and directly in front of the ref's eyeline) was directly infringing play as the Slovenian most likely would have been able to head the incoming ball clear.

Tough decision but the right one. Still a decent result considering it looked like you were going to get rolled over up until half time.

Even the BBC site says it was a goal and a bad call on the refs part.....

BBC Radio 5 live's David Moyes

"I've just seen that disallowed goal for the US again - and not only was there no foul by a US player, there are probably two penalty-kick offences being committed by the Slovenian defenders. Shocking decision."

But it is what it is. Now we just need to hope England can beat Slovenia and the USA can best Algeria badly...
