Achtung! The September Punk Recordingfest REVEAL!!!

Yeah, I might try and see if I can fix that up right quick tonight. And I wasnt necessarily following the punk guideline. That just happened to be the song I was learning and figured acoustic grunge was a distant cousin to punk.

Oh it's definitely a cousin to punk. The cool thing about punk is that everyone gets to define it for herself or himself.

And then everyone gets to argue about it.

Too pretty to be "punk." More like mellow psychedelia. I could definitely see Hendrix doing something like that.

Thanks Brian
Actually I recently downloaded the new beta Audacity and wanted to try it out. But I forgot that this was about punk. I should have added a wah and some distortion then :)

Paulski, that was too cool, haha. The f-bomb towards the end was a nice touch. I love tongue-in-cheek punkifications of songs like that. The first band I fronted wasn't so much punk as "punk and roll," and we covered (and I use the term extremely broadly) the theme to "Sesame Street" a few times.

Brian Krashpad: I think I listened to Buffy's Dead. The song was cool to listen to. I guess you do a lot of performing live.

Andy-I like the different vocal parts a lot, the guitar sounds are great together too.

Johnny N- Very nice, I thought it really came together when the tempo kicked up at the end.

Hobo- cool singing tone

NoQuater- This was really great. Nice background vocals, the piano sounded great, mixing that song with Let it Be was awesome.

Phil- The vocals was awesome and you had a really cool crunch going on there.

Krashpad- THats what I think of when I think punk, cool tune.

Paulskirocks- awesome, this just cracked me up. The cookie monster vocal had me on the floor.

Peeker- The opening riff was really cool. How do you sing like that without shredding your voice? Im impressed.

Jeremy- Nice opening sequence. Great playing throughout.

Wilmer X- I dont remember any punk bands playing like that. Cool trem work.

Prages & Mrs. P- Nice choice of songs. I expect a Gem and the Holograms cover next time  You really knocked that out of the park Mrs. P, and of course the instrumentation was awesome. Although Im not sure how I feel about Prages as one of the Pussycats.

Sedated- Awesome as always

Pepper- I forgot all about that song. Nice choice, the original could have used some lead work like that.

Knox- Nice vocals. Im not familiar with that tune. I couldn't get Just Like Heaven out of my head when I was listening to it. Maybe Im nuts.

AlienSporeBomb-Very nice punk thing, the Pink Floydy break caught me off guard. Nice tune.

Peeker- The opening riff was really cool. How do you sing like that without shredding your voice? Im impressed.
Rev, I've been "singing" like this for about 25 years or so...I'm pretty used to it by now.
though I've had a couple times where I've lost my voice for a day or two.

Kerouac, great stuff!
not familiar with the original, but this sounds top notch.

Johnny N took me a sec to place the tune, love what you've done with it.

Hobo slick, reminds me of a time in an old apartment, alone with various substances:wink:

noquarter1983 I've always liked the orig Skyscraper, and I don't recall hearing BR do it acoustically (though I probably have, somewhere along the way). love the combo, and the vocals are awesome!

Phil513 oddly enough, I considered doing this one myself. vocals sound great to me, don't know why you were so down on 'em.
I'm rockin' out to this one.

Brian Krashpad right up my alley with this, kickass punk rock! and I remember the show

paulskirocks
hey, this is WICKED! but I knew that already

Peeker holy smokes, killer stuff!

Jeremy badass. needs vocals though, and I think I know someone who could help...

Wilmer X
this would be awesome for sitting in a hot tub, in complete darkness, witha bottle (or ten) of wine.
pretty trippy.

Prages
get bent.
seriously though...

Mrs P, great vocals.
this one reminds me a lot of Girlschool, with more pop.
nothin' wrong with that.

...Sedated
pretty hard to go wrong with this classic.
nicely done.
I'm also glad we didn't end up picking the same Ramones tune:lol:

as for the 3rd one, well, I was never a fan of the Surfers, but I don't hate this.
and it is one of their better tunes, IMO.
well done.
not that I expected less...:thu:

Knox in Box y'know, I had a few opportunities to see Superchunk live, and I missed them every single time.
sucks...
I like this cover.

aliensporebomb http://pod.ath.cx/punk/asb-trapper-keeper.mp3lovin' this! who does it originally?
all I could find was the commercials for the school binder...:embarrassed:

Kerouac - Loved it, nice job. Loved the drums, both the playing and the recording of 'em.

Johnny - Definitely you, laid back guitar and vocals. Yeah, could be louder, but i just turned it up. Nice job.

Hobo - Nice guitar tone, and the playing was nice and moody, good note selections. Wish i could solo like that. :embarrassed:

NoQuarter - Really well done. I have always liked your singing, i really have. It has sort of a natural angst about it. Great song.

Phil - You tosser.

Krashpad - now that is a proper punk song. Fantastic.

Paulski - You are just as twisted as Peeker, lol. Well done, i was laughing whilst rocking out.

Peeker - You are nuts. I really don't see how you have one vocal cord left in your head. Great job on all three, but of course i'll have to go with March Or Die. Of course.

Jeremy - That rocked dude. I liked the really fat, kinda clipping sound of the rhythm guitar, that was cool. You should still try to sing it though.

Wilmer - Well done, but just too much for my poor brain to grasp. Im not a very artsy fellow. :embarrassed:

Prages - Aces, as always. What can i say, you are one of the bosses around here for good reason. And Mrs. P, you got one heckuva singing voice. I always just loved Vindicated, and you did it again. I hope this means you'll be doing more.

Knox - Great cover, you were rockin' that bass. And nice job on the solo.

Alien - Wow. Loved the break, shocked the crap out of me. Nice job.

Thanks everyone. You guys inspire me to do this some more!

I wish I could take credit for them, but those are programmed. :embarrassed:

---
- Sent from my iPhone at a Tijuana donkey show.

Holy crap, if anything, im even more impressed. I guess it would take a drummer to know that stuff.

Finally getting to listen to these. I'll start with the ones I was able to download and then hit all the streaming ones.

Emergency: Nicely done. Great performance. If I were mixing, I'd bring the distorted guitars and the bass up so they were rattling the speakers, but that's just how I roll. :embarrassed:

Better Man: Really good job here. This one suits your voice really well. Playing and singing are both well done. :thu:

Broken Chopsticks: Nice job. I like the reverb/delay you've got going on. Just enough to make it sound good without being too much. Good note choices too.

Skyscraper/Let It Be: I've always been a fan of yours, and this is no exception. Love the backing vocals.

Rock This Town: Well, I've never heard this one done quite like this. Great job. Nice and tight, and extremely punk.

Chinese Rock: Very nice, and authenic punk.

March or Die: Again, great job. I get the feeling you've done this punk thing before. :embarrassed:

Slack Motherfucker: Sounds really good. I really like the chord progression and bass line. :thu:

Trapper Keeper: Yeah, the breakdown in the middle was completely unexpected. Sounds great.

Real Wild Child: Great job. I don't know why you were so down on the vocals. They sound great, IMO.

Buffy's Dead: Nice to hear a live clip here. You guys sound really good. I like the song a lot too. I don't worry, I remember Family Affair. :embarrassed:

Candy Man: Awesome. :embarrassed: Sammy Davis Jr is rolling over in his grave.

Jeremy's Song: That sounds good. I like the snippets of the Presidents' speaches, but yeah, get Peeker to sing it or something. :)

Wilmer: Your recordings always sound so organic and warm. Nice job.

I hope I didn't miss anyone.

Lessee, where'd I leave off?

Peeker:

The plinky leads on Rock This Town were a great contrast. Reminded me of the Dickies a bit.

Chinese Rocks is one of my fave punk songs. Nailed the buzzsaw Ramones rhythm guitar (I know the more famous version is by the Heartbreakers but iirc Joey cowrote and Ramones did a version too).

I don't know the original to March or Die, sounds like old school (early '80's) hardcore.

Jeremy, this is cool punkabilly! Very Social D (one of my fave punk bands) feeling to it! Wish I weren't such a techno-dunce or I'd sing it!

Thanks everyone for the good reviews. And yeah, now that I think of it "Just like Heaven" has about the same chord progression and tempo, the prominent bass line helps push it to Cure territory quick. Hmmmmmmmm ..... an medly song called "Just like Slack Motherfuckin Heaven" comes into my head.
