Achtung! The Official April Recordingfest Thread - "The Year You Were Born"

Knox In Box!!!

I didn't get your mix downloaded and the link you sent me is dead!!! I can't do the vocals until you send me a new link. :(

Re-uploading now.

Told you I'm busy :(

Sorry about that. I should be able to knock them out pretty quickly this evening. Don't delete the upload until you have my tracks though, just in case. I won't be able to even download it until this evening.

The file was still there but must have been corrupted or I screwed up the link somehow. Anyway I'll send you the new link. I probably won't be up tonight if you could just throw the vox on it and upload it. Sorry, I feel like I'm asking too much but time isn't allowing me many options here. The mix is final except for cutting off space at the beginning.

I can do that. I usually end up doing a mix for myself on collaborations anyway.

I am not in love with it but I finished. I will send it over at lunch time.

These things never turn out like I thought they would or even like I heard it in my head but with each one, I get better at something. This time, I have a far better drum situation and I think they sound way better than I have done and was far easier. I also really like how easy it was to work with my RP355 for guitar and bass for the first time. I tried a few more things in Reaper this time and I am starting to get a better handle on some of the recording concepts. I have a long way to go but I am starting to see how a few easy steps can make a big difference. All in all, this is great fun and forces me to try things.

Thanks again to Mark for letting us play.

That's what I always loved. I always try something a bit different in order to learn. That said this song this month was easy. But I learned a lot programming the drums, so it wasn't a waste.

Shiiiiiiiiiiit.... I stayed up late to record because I thought the reveal was today.

*goes on hunt for coffee*

If I get mine done it will be pretty late tonight. Been pretty busy out at the ranch, makes it hard to spend time inside. . .

Heh. Both me and Andy done well before the reveal. The universe must explode one of these days.

It took longer to record than I was expecting...

because I forgot to arm the track and spent the next 30 minutes recording in another room, losing a PERFECT take. :annoyed:

If you would have had it on tape and listened back the next day it wouldn't be so perfect. Just look at it that way.

Just like that chick you didn't get to bang in High school, in your mind it would have been all that, In reality it probably wasn't.

Just monitored my uploaded track for Prages. I must say, it's sounding Bombastic (IMHO) though not perfect. There's a reason this Sabbath stuff goes over so well. :embarrassed:

Done that. Repeatedly. :embarrassed:

Yeah, I was pissed. Plus it gets pretty hot in that closet with the light on. I might have to resort to a flashlight. :embarrassed:

No, it was perfect. I've never played that song so well before and additionally they were no chair squeaks, clothes rustling, etc. I was epically pissed.

At Pragestock last year when the guys from my first gigging band showed up and we played four or five songs, I had everything mic'd up and ready to record.

I had all the tracks enabled EXCEPT for the bass track. Didn't realize it until I started mixing a few days later. There's even a spot in one of the videos where Lino zooms in on the computer monitor and you see all the track meters pounding away...and one lonely track meter that is doing nothing at all.

I did manage to EQ one of the overheads and a few of the drum mics closest to the bass amp so they'd pick up some of the bass, but it would have sounded a whole lot better if the recording engineer wasn't such a dumbass. :embarrassed:
