The Hollow Guitar

Cool! :thu: An old Teisco?

Vox is making some less expensive versions now.
I'll find some info later.

For hollow you have the new Series 77 which streets for about $1400

Also it looks like the new Virage models have their new in house pickups instead of the DiMarzio 390s. I wonder how they compare.

I like the way they play, but I'm not a fan of the bling. White Falcon, No. Silver Falcon, Yes.

Here's my contribution - my G5191 Tim Armstrong Model (basically a reissue of the Baldwin Era Country Club)

Agree. Its amazing how completely opposite I feel about those two guitars.

I think the White Falcon is the most godaweful, silly sissyish fairy twingletoes, tinkerbell guitar Ive ever seen, and on the other hand, there is just about no other guitar that I am gassing for right now more than a Black falcon.

The black falcon should come with a disclaimer that says you need at least a 10 lb. set of balls to even hold one. It is a baddass guitar.

The white falcon should come with a disclaimer that says your balls will instantly shrivel up and get sucked back into your own body, where they will be attacked and consumed by your own body if you even look at one.

The most sissified........, well, ANYTHING, I have ever seen.

There's a guy who sells Korean made 7 string hollows and semi-hollows. Matt Raines. I belong to the 7-string guitar forum, and I asked about the Raines guitars, and from what I was told, they're kind of hit and miss at times. Some players have had good ones, other have wound up having to deal with fixing issues their Raines guitars had. Here's the website for them:

Moi? - I wish I could find one of these, and afford it:

It's a Gretsch George Van Epps 7-string. They were made from 1968, until the late 70s, and are probably the first production 7-string guitar. they were never very common, and the last one I saw, went for $2500.

Of course, there's always the Schecter Jazz 7. It's no longer being made, but I've seen them going on eBay for about 400-$500. From what I've been told, they're so-so guitars stock, that with a little bit of work, can be made pretty good players. I still keep an eye out for them, when the mood strikes me.

Ibanez also made a 7-string - the AF-207, but they're even less common that the Schecters.

So, like a growing number of 7-string players wanting a hollow or semi-hollow 7, I'm stuck with my solidbody (a Schecter Omen Extreme 7) for now.

Yeah, I was interested in that stuff until I noticed what appeared to be some slightly dodgy work in the photos on the website. I think it was some of the binding or finish work somewhere that made me decide against it. I figured if the pics up on the site are already showing issues, WTF else could be wrong with it when it turns up?! It'd be one thing if it was a guy here importing these or whatever, coz then if something's wrong I can just drive over there to deal with it. But importing something unseen/unplayed that's quite likely to arrive dodgy? Meh...

I think I'd rather just spend some more money and get someone local to custom make me something. When I start to get some money together, I'll find out from O'Donnell Guitars here what that kind of thing would cost... might have to just end up going with an off-the-shelf 6-string or something. :(

I'm not a seven string player myself, but your posts immediately made me think of this guitar:

It's a Moll Custom. I played one once, John Pizzarelli's, when I did sound for him several years back. It was a beautiful instrument. By no means cheap.

Here, have an ES-330 then.

You can adjust the height of the neck and, thus alter the action, with an allen wrench without causing the guitar to go out of tune.

Here's my only current semi-hollow. It was built by local luthier Dan Neafsey who used to build all of the Jarrett Custom guitars. I plan on having him add a Bigsby as well as some other mods this summer. It's an extremely versatile machine, tone-wise. The varitone allows it to go from single coil scream to LP to 335 to jazz box territories. It's currently got Bartollini's in it now, but I'm thinking of switching them to something a little more aggressive. Dunno.
