The greatest 'frontman/woman" dancers of all time

Why post people you wouldn’t buy albums from? If they’re really great you should be a consuming fan.

I did purchase the Shakira cd 'Laundry Service' 15 years ago. That said, it does have a lot of filler songs on it.

I posted her doing the song 'Objection live ' in a previous post. I prefer the studio version due to the beautiful accordion playing.

Here is the studio version. Yes, that's Steve Carrell in Get Smart.

Front person who is a great dancer does not necessarily equal great albums.

Hold on, is the question about greatest dancers who are frontmen/women, or greatest frontmen/women who dance?

I'm not doing a ton of research, but Michael Jackson had thirteen Billbiard #1 hits. He has had some of the best selling albums of all time. They sold well because they are exceptionally great albums. Add his dancing into the mix, and he's the man.

I listed a Michael Jackson dance video on the previous page. Please watch. Tell me if you think there has been a better dancer in the history of the music industry. I get it that he's not everyone's cup of tea.

You’re a brave man to admit this. And comfortable in your manhood.

His dancing is not really fluid. Lots of starting and stopping with little tricks in between. That’s why I posted Prince. He brings on the funk.

Well I don’t personally think Shakira does either really well. I’ll always prefer a great musical talent, who write their own songs, who dances and performs well. Which really narrows it down to Prince, Lady Gaga, Beck, Freddie Mercury, and a handful of others. Some say Michael Jackson writes music, but I tend to think that Quincy Jones had more control over the composition of Thriller.

...also probably the only front man to have his own video game. That's gotta count for something.

It's not brave. She has some great songs. I enjoy all genres of music.

I'm guessing your manhood comment was a joke. I suppose in high school I wouldn't admit to listening to certain bands out of fear of being judged. I'm an adult now.

I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan. I would stack ten of my favorite songs by her against any other artist, and they would hold their own.

Those different levels of Moonwalking are hypnotic. I haven't seen any other person in the music business dance like that. Prince is up there as a big hit dancing frontman. There are lots of hip hop artists that can dance great. I just dont know their music.

French mime Marcel Marceau did the moonwalk on the Ed Sullivan show back in the sixties. Except he was holding an umbrella and impersonating a man walking against the wind in a extreme storm where his feet were making the motion of walking forward while he was actually moving backwards across the stage. He was holding the umbrella as it was inside out and also appearing to be blown back in the direction his body was moving.

The mime act was the first thing I thought of when watching Jackson live on that Motown special years ago.

Lady Gaga is like a lot of pop stars in that she writes with collaborators. There are lots of people doing the very same thing (including Shakira). And also do choreographed dancing and selling out world tours because they perform well. She is just more present to people on here who only ever see newish pop music during football games or awards shows.

Just to take one for instance. Checking the liner notes for Shakira's Laundry Service now, "Objection (Tango)" is credited solely to Shakira. The rest are collaborations, but that one is hers. She also co-produced all of the songs on the album. Probably most of her other albums are similarly written.

That example does not apply to this thread. Shirley you knew that.

Well that’s hard to know. Beyoncé gets writing credits on her songs and often comes up with a word or two. I was well aware of Shakira back in the 90s, which also makes me question why we’ve been seeing the same artists for the past 25 years in popular music. It’s like having 10 aging U2 and Foo Fighters bands just lingering decades after their best work (assuming Shakira has any artistic best work of note). Oh wait, we do have that.

That’s one reason why Billie Eilish is so refreshing. Her and her brother are actual songwriters and home recorders. Although their music isn’t breaking any new ground style wise.
