The death metal appreciation thread part deux

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think I want to like it, but it's just not connecting somehow. Some cool gorguts-y stuff though!

yeah, I guess so. or riff over hook, or something (to reference a thread I remember from around here recently). It always seems vaguely tragic that the ability and occasional interesting tidbits never get integrated into something a bit more musical.

I can’t quite put my finger on it. Perhaps it sounds to me like ‘let’s impress the kids with our technical abilities’ rather than writing good music.

These days I tend to prefer bands that evoke a certain atmosphere that is genuinely dark and unsettling

Can't stop listening to the new Portal, it is surprisingly 'accessible' and more weird than brooding like the previous albums. I believe they used regular 6-strings tuned to E standard instead of 8-strings.

oh, and if you haven't heard this yet... you should :rawk:
