OK, 6'10" Stoker V Machine surfboard has been ordered, and deposit sent... Skateboarding is a blast, but surfing is my favorite... It's been six years... I'll be a bit rusty, but I've been training...

Guitar heel, I have a number of friends in different pastimes that made it to the pro level or top amateur ranks... I know that feeling... On the other hand, I am a better surfer, skier, skater, and dirt bike rider for hanging out with them...

I love surfing, too. My poor body has been abused, so it isn't easy, but the natural moves are still there. You will feel sore afterward, old man!

I have friends who became super pro's in their sports as well. They all moved away at some point, but I'm glad they got to live the dream.

My second BMX bike was a Redline PL-20 Carrera II back in '83. I later got an SE Quadangle. I sucked at BMX, so bought an early Haro 1st generation Freestyler bike for the skate park. We created all kinds of jumps and stunts before the "extreme" label came along. It was nothing compared to the guys who later upped freestyle, but it had to start somewhere.

My first board after a piece of plywood and clay wheels, was a GT by Grentec...

I can't recall what the couple boards are I have now...
I do have one of these, which is a blast...

And this should be arriving in a day or so...

47 years old, and still playing!

That is so cool. My first skateboards where cheapos from department stores when I was a kid. When I was 14 I got my Santa Cruz Rob Roskop. I wanted a Lucero, but the bike store that I got my deck had limited decks and I had to get what was available. The cool thing is that I still have my Roskop deck!

My kinda' skateboard! Vert/pool boards were all we used back in the day (early to mid-80's), but this one has a slightly longer wheelbase. We skated everything from pools, ramps, parks, garages, and urban.

One of my favorites, the Christian Hosoi Model:

The early days (mid to late 70's), the aluminum Banzai was the shit!

I loved that Hosoi deck. We didn't have much in the forms of parks, pools or ramps here. For me it was mostly urban.

I can't skate a half pipe after even one beer!

Yea, I grew up in the first phase of "radical" sports... I remember the transition from clay wheels on plywood skateboards to modern, the change from clunky Schwinn Stingray bicycles to Redline BMX, the change from short travel to long travel suspension on dirt bikes, I remember the clamp on roller skates with metal wheels, and now we have inline skates, which I can also skate in a half pipe...

It was pretty cool growing up in Socal in the early days... I remember when I was 14, and I talked a bunch of neighbor kids into helping me rip off a bunch of plywood from a jobsite around the block... We simply walked around the block at like 6 AM on a Sunday morning, took the chain link gate off the hinges, and carried back about 10 sheets of 1/2 inch plywood between about six of us... Then, we proceeded to build a sloping runway to a 12 foot high vert ramp... It was just the 4 foot width of the plywood... We had no idea what we were doing, but we pulled it off...

So, did my mom ask where the wood came from? Nope... She never asked questions! However, after every kid in town started hanging around in my backyard, she got stressed, and told me I had to take it down... I got pissed off and hatcheted it down, and lit it on fire... :) I was a very well adjusted kid...

Man, growing up in SoCal would have been so cool. I was into all of those things and was jealous of all the things going on in SoCal at the time.

I'm very seriously looking into building a half pipe in the back yard for the kids. I think I already mentioned this, but I am seriously going to do it.

I used to skate A LOT. Then my best friend (at the time) that I started skating with became #1 in the world in the mid 90's and still skates and announces. Fuck that asshole.

:)

Naw, actually we're still friends, I'm just completely jealous of his life over the past 25 years.

You mentioned once, but I forgot. Who was it?

I miss living on the coast and surfing. I found that for our shitty east coast waves, a river kayak is a blast.

Wilbury was a travelling box. He's on the last leg of his journey.

Zemmy was the one to originate the first traveling box. Miss that guy.

Happy new computer day! What are you getting?

The cat smacked the puppy last night. Scared him pretty good.
When he got over it, he went and got his favorite stuffed dragon toy and took it to her as a peace offering.
The cat did not accept.

it'll be a PC, I know that much.
gonna do some shopping around.
oddly enough, WalMart has a good deal on a nice tower of power right now.
and since the rest of my crap (monitor, etc) is all fine, the tower's all I need.
under $400 for the one I was lookin' at.
gonna check some other shops though, too.
