When I lived in Huntington Beach.. I was about 3 blocks from Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady)... Super cool woman.. but her husband.. definitely a tweaker! Also...the kid from Baywatch.. Hoby..lived around the corner.. he was cool.. but he said he got beat up a lot... I miss So Cal....

HB is nice...thats where my wife lived when we met...I used to play in the bars on Main street all the time..

California living is really tough... I had to spend the 72 degree day sitting in an adirondack staring at this terrible view:

Was it this guitar?

Thats the one I spend the most time with yesterday at GC. I was thinking that I might like it enough to buy it but couldn't get myself to pull the trigger. The I played the Setzer model and realized that was really the feel and tone that I wanted but I'm not spending $3k on a guitar I won't play very much.,.,.

$3k is a ripoff for an SSLVO. And yes, the Gretschbuckers that are stock on the Electromatics, don't sound uber Gretschy (although adjusting the polepieces does make them sound more Gretschy). But, you could do like many Gretsch players do - buy an Electromatic, and replace the pickups with either TV Jones (sort of pricey at $135), or GFS Retrotrons (Gretschy - not super Gretschy like TV Jones, but much cheaper at 35-$40, and much more Gretschy sounding than Gretschbuckers).

I was thinking about if buying it and changing the pickups was a good idea but I just didn't care for the sound of the guitar acoustically enough to want to gamble...I might still go try a Casino and see if I like it. The rest of the Epiphone semi hollows I played were horrid yesterday, though.

Happy Birthday Mark! :)

Thanks!

Afernoon All,

Happy Birthday Mark! Whatever age you are now - it only gets harder.

Jello - funny you should ask...OK - so I played a couple more Gibsons. A Les Paul Classic some-thing-or-other w/ 57 Classics. I loved it in the Ice Tea finish - but did not like much else about it. I did like power chords on high gain - but not much else.

I played it back to back wtih another LP Traditional Pro w/ the 57 in neck - Burstbucker 3 in bridge, and coil tapes. I played em both in about ideal circumstances. All to myself on a variety of amps in a closed room. You know - I think the Traditional Pro is the one. I've had coil traps before - these make a BIG difference in tone. I like the metal tuners on this better than the plastic on some others I've played.

I'm going to stew on it a bit longer - but I think it is going to be the LP Traditional Pro.
