That Seedy Table In The Dark Corner Where The Reprobates Gather

Man, we had band practice last night and it was TERRIBLE! Our lead guitarist didn't show up (sick) our rhythm player evidently forgot how useful opposeable thumbs are when playing guitar (that is me by the way) and our drummer forgot to take his ADD meds.

Ever have those practices where it all just turns to poop and you just put your gear up and leave? :run:

I have had those nights and they happen...good plan is to start drinking heavily or smoking like a chimney when that happends and scrap the set list. My old band we would get stoned when it started to suck and switch from metal to blues.

You should play it! :embarrassed:

I have...that's why it makes me feel so funny. There is a super badass that works in the acoustic section of my local GC that has been trying to get me to buy a Koa for a while. Pisses me off how nice they are and how well they play.

Yeah, my buddy at the local mom and pop pushed this one on me. I could only resist for two months and I had to have it. It was used and I got it for just uner $400 less than their asking price since I paid cash.

I am still shocked how loud they are unplugged to be 2" thick. Someone spent a lot of time designing that body to make it sing like that. They are really light to the touch too, you can bend like a fiend on them. I haven't touch my other guitars since I bought this one.

I deffinately see myself owning one in the not too distant future.

Hi gang, what's shakin?

Morning all!

Ellen, I have an all tube '74 Silverface Champ I would sell. Speaker has been replaced with a Peavey Blue Marvel, but it is clean and was just serviced. It would be in your price range, but may not be what you are looking for since it is only a single channel amp. Sounds awesome though. Plus, you can dime this thing and not tick off the neighbors. If you are interested, just PM me and we can discuss.

Silver, I sent you the lessons Mark recommended to me. Should be helpful.

Hmmm, intriguing. I don't mind single channel amps at all (just turn down the volume on your guitar to clean things up, and you're good to go). One of my early influences was a hard rocker by the name of Dave Steffen (he used to play with Sun Blind Lion, a few years before I first saw him perform). The first time I saw him in 1982, he was playing a 1979 Strat into a Champ, with a clean boost, at the local county fair. The amp was miced to run through the PA. It sounded like World War 3!!! If you drive Champs hard enough, they'll scream bigtime! What's the speaker size in your champ? Is it an 8", or has a 10" been shoehorned into it?

8" speaker.

Good morning all! I'm a bit hung over this morning. But last night was fun.

Ellen, that reminds me that I'm planning to sell a couple of amps. I have a SWR LA15 100w bass amp that I want to sell. I also have my old Line 6 Flextone II that I'd like to sell. I just don't need the SWR. And I still really like the Line 6, but I want to downsize my amp. I want something more portable. I'm aiming for a ZT Lunchbox. Can't get much more portable than that.

Hi Monica,

Ken, the guy from ZT Amps was hanging out on the Gretsch Discussion Pages for a while last year. I'm intrigued by the Lunchboxes - especially the new Club series. I'm sick of breaking my back carrying 70 and 80 lb. amps. I love the sound of a closed back 2x12 at full roar, but even they can be a hefty load to lug. My only concern about the ZTs, is some thermal issues they've had. People were reporting that they were getting pretty hot, after being used a for a while. I don't know if that issue has been fixed yet. As for the Line 6 - at the present time, I'll pass, but it you still have it down the road, maybe. don't hang onto it, on a count of me. If you can sell it, sell it.

That little metal box could probably get pretty hot to the touch too. Cool looking amps though. How do they sound?

It's Friday, Let your freak flag fly high!

As high as it can in a Coporate Office.

Hi all (too many to name - I been busy.)

Ellen - just to throw a screw ball your way - if you don't care for Monica's stuff - how about a Kustom hybrid for something different. I love my Vox VT30 - but those are pretty common. I have a Kustom HV65 I really like - I'm not selling - just throwing out an option.

Ellen, I have never playd a schecter that could be my #1, you could do alright witha Peavey 6505+ and a new set of tubes and scratch the schecter. If I remember correctly, you have another 7 string right? I am not knocking schecter and I have wanted some that I have played to be a better fit for me, but you have to have an amp and the gain and compression on the 6505+ does some damn decent super gain, but it isn't very versatile.

This post took 10 minutes or I would have typed more:(

Good Morning Matt,

Actually the Schecter is my only 7-string. And I paid for it in part (it's on layaway), to get it back from the Music Go Round I originally sold it to, when I was mucho tapped out moneywise a couple of months ago, after paying my bills. My other 7-string (a Squier Stagemaster 7), was traded towards the Schecter. Because the Schecter is on layaway at Music Go Round, I'd have to use the layaway money as store credit towards gear they have. As it is, I'm not certain if I want to keep the Schecter, or just use it as store credit. Orignally, I had only planned to have 7-string guitars as an interim, until, I got an 8-string. I've played a few 8-string guitars, and they're fun to play, but I don't know, if I'll utilize one enough to it's full capacity, to make it worth the money to spend on it. I know a few former 8-string players who went back to playing 7-strings because they felt they weren't making enough use of the 8th string.

As for the 6505 - yeah, they are cool! I've tried out a few, and they 5150s, they're derived from. But, at the moment, even used, they're a bit out of my price range. If I really had the cash, I'd get either a Reeves for mega gain Hiwatt derived tones, or a Fryette (which are the REAL VHTs nowadays, since VHT amps [after Steve Fryette sold the company], are vintage toned amps, instead of the aggressive, uber tight sounding amps they used to be).

Cool...How about Valve Kings? I have a 50 watt 112 with jjs and i threw away the crappy reverb tank...it is a fucking monster, and I spent 225 on it. Have you tried Ibanez 7 strings?

Ellen,

Is portability a big thing? I mean it is for me - cause I have a bad back. I had a Peavey Bandit - but it weighed a ton. The best solution I could come up with for my needs was the VT30. I can easily move that around rooms - into the car too. The Kustom HV65 is about as light - and 65 watts - but a hybrid.

The ZT's intrigue me, but I have never heard one.

8" speaker.

I think I'll pass for now. I'm looking or at least a 10" (preferrably a 12" ) speaker. Maybe down the road, when things have settled down, and if you still have it, I might take you up on your offer. Thanks anyway.

Actually pretty cool. Jazzers especially are starting to view them in the same vein as the Polytone Mini Brute (very popular jazz guitar amp).

Yes, it can do metal in a pinch

Hmmm, that's a thought too. Music Go Round has a Kustom Quad 100 DFX for $200.

I also have another thought. Ken of ZT amps, made me an offer both in the Gretsch Discussion Pages, and HC 1.0, to give one of his amps a try. Maybe I'll get in touch with him.

That's a nice looking Kustom for $200. I have a Kustom Dart 66 practice amp that I love.

As I get older, I find that I'm moving away from modeling amps and amps with built in effects that require programming. Just too much bullshit. I'll take a clean amp with a few pedals any day. Much easier to learn and control.

I have another thought. I LOVE hybrid amps (tube pre-amps, solid state power amps). Vox's new AC15VR and AC30VR valve reactor technology amps are finally out. I can just afford to buy an AC15VR outright, or on the play as you pay option, I can get an AC15VR for 4, $95 payments:

or an AC30VR for 4, $138 payments.

I like the additional portability the 15 watter has, over the 30 watter, but I don't know if it would be loud enough in a band situation (30 watts has always been my minimum). The only problem - AC30s are such a pain to carry!

I'm usually a big fan of straightforward amps. This is getting harder by the minute! I'm going through bigtime amp withdrawl.
