Glad to hear that the guitar is "packed" and not just "boxed". That is a little ribbing to Zemmy.

I'm third in,

What up. I'm in the office today, but fairly caught up. I'll be in and out throughout the day.

I got the PRS SE Tremonti out last night. It came last week I think? But was mainly still playing the new Washburn WI18. I will probably post a NGD for the PRS. I was concerned about the PUP's - but I do really like them. Not LP sonics - have more of a piercing quality.

Darn it - PRS just beat me - makes me fourth.

Woody, I know what you mean about the pickups - sometimes I'll be playing mine and think they're too twangy, a few minutes later I'll think "wow, these sound pretty good :thu: ".

I still may down the road experiment with the pickups - maybe a HB-sized P90 in the neck, and a tapped '59-ish in the bridge.

I had read reviews before I bought the SE. I heard that they would not be as thick as a Les Paul humbucker. They do have their own qualtiy - almost getting toward a single coil sound. One think I do really like about them is on high gain they do not get too noisy. I'm not sure about the shape of the neck. I'd have to play it a few more times, but my left hand got tired a couple times. It might have been because I had not played for a couple days. I'll know more about how that is going to work in a week or so. A lot of people seem to swap the PUP's out - but I don't plan on it.

Good Morning!

TGIF! Hopefully I'll get out of work at a decent time today. I have to decide what I'm going to do about my amp dilemma. As I mentioned last week in Pete's "Looks Like I'll Be Selling #1......" <sic> thread, I was tight (as in broke) for cash (I don't get paid again, until next week Friday), and had NO ASSURANCE that I was going to receive the profit sharing bonus I got this past Wednesday. So, I ended up selling my 2x12 cab, and my amp. All I'm left with ampwise is a Little Smokey, and an unzipped copy of the freeware version of Amplitube on my computer. I'm also expecting the Blackheart Killer Ant, 1/2 watt tube head I won on eBay before my cash crunch, to arrive next week. So, I NEED to take care of my amp situation. I don't have a bundle to throw at an amp, since I spent half of my bonus putting new tires on my car, and more money on some bills. There are a few possibilities:

1. 30 watt Orange Crush 30R - I've read some good thigns about these channel switching solid state amps. There's one for sale at the local Music-Go-Round for $120. The only downer - it has no external speaker jack (although one could be wired into it).

2. Tubeworks Mosvalve 752 - this is a late 80s/early 90s, 40 watt hybrid (12AX7 pre-amp, and MOSFET power amp), made by the same guys that used to make the Tube driver pedals. I had a Tube driver for a long time (1987-2000), and it used to be my go to for extra kick while I was soloing. I tried it out yesterday after work. The amp itself was in good shape, other than a sticking channel switching relay (easy to fix). The sound, was sort of 80s hard rock/metal, which I thought was kind of odd, since my Tube Driver could so some serious chain saw sound, if I needed it to do so. Amp cosmetics are a little on the funky looking side. The speaker is detachable, meaning that in a pinch, it could be used for a head. Price is $150.

3. Get my hands on a Randall Solid State, or Ibanez Tone Blaster amp - both amps, from my personal experience, do decent high gain tones, and OK cleans. They would cost a little more, which I'd prefer not to spend, but can hack in the name of tone.

4. Just get a speaker cab for now, for my soon to arrive Killer Ant - maybe.

I have about $300 (with cash to tide me over until next payday, already taken out of the above number) to spend. I also have to consider paying off my Schecter 7-string that's on layaway. That can wait until payday. As it is, while it's a great guitar, I'm not so wild about its Strat-type body style. I've been stratted out for a very long time. So I've been having fleeting thoughts about using the layaway as credit towards another amp. Decisions, decisions.

Good morning all! I'm a bit hung over this morning. But last night was fun.

Ellen, that reminds me that I'm planning to sell a couple of amps. I have a SWR LA15 100w bass amp that I want to sell. I also have my old Line 6 Flextone II that I'd like to sell. I just don't need the SWR. And I still really like the Line 6, but I want to downsize my amp. I want something more portable. I'm aiming for a ZT Lunchbox. Can't get much more portable than that.

Ellen, I have never playd a schecter that could be my #1, you could do alright witha Peavey 6505+ and a new set of tubes and scratch the schecter. If I remember correctly, you have another 7 string right? I am not knocking schecter and I have wanted some that I have played to be a better fit for me, but you have to have an amp and the gain and compression on the 6505+ does some damn decent super gain, but it isn't very versatile.

This post took 10 minutes or I would have typed more:(

Good morning, fellow riff raff. wave0

nah...there was one in my local shop for $650 less than a month ago

Zemmy... or anyone... if you see one of these again for a price like that, ask them if they'll ship to VA. Please?

man...i love my job...and it beats the shit out of real work...but sometimes...

you guys ever feel the need to grab someone by the ears, shake their melon and scream "HOW THE FUCK DID YOU SURVIVE THIS LONG??"

Constantly. Only problem is I'm related to most of the perpetrators.

Morning all!

Ellen, I have an all tube '74 Silverface Champ I would sell. Speaker has been replaced with a Peavey Blue Marvel, but it is clean and was just serviced. It would be in your price range, but may not be what you are looking for since it is only a single channel amp. Sounds awesome though. Plus, you can dime this thing and not tick off the neighbors. If you are interested, just PM me and we can discuss.

Silver, I sent you the lessons Mark recommended to me. Should be helpful.
