Spinal Tap II

I replied to this thread over 3 years ago...who knew?

So this could be funny if they play the "geezer bands reuniting for the paycheck" card. If they just go with a straight ahead mockumentary, it'll probably suck, like most sequels to iconic films.

I may have said this already in this three-year-old thread, but as wary as I am of sequels like this, especially comedy sequels, I have enough faith in these guys that if anyone can pull it off, it's them. Everything they've done has been a hoot.

From box office reports, history is repeating itself.

Low box office interest, attendance, and therefore earnings. Theoretically, it'll kick butt once it's streaming.

I'm looking forward to seeing at home in the future. Not like in a decade or two, more like three to six months.

Finally saw it. Compared to, for example, the Dumb and Dumber sequel, this was pretty good. A decent update on the characters, new jokes, and not just a ton of references to jokes on the old movie. It's probably my least favorite of the Christopher Guest mockumentaries, but that's a very high bar to clear and I'd still recommend it to fans of the first movie.

I finally caught STII over the weekend, only to hear of Rob's murder on Monday. That is really terrible.

But regarding STII, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be lame and reuse a bunch of old bits from the first movie, but it wasn't that at all. It was a very natural "documentary" about an aging rock band getting back together for one final gig. The cameos & guest appearances were great. Easy to tell those guys were fans of the first movie and very good sports about being included in the second. :thu:

The bar was impossibly high. It was ok, but nothing special.

The cheese guitar was my fav slice.
