Newsflash! Soccerball International Championship thread?

Yeah, great group as far as excitement goes. Spain got off lucky as well. Sad for Iran, but at the end of the day, 30-something % possession is going to get you into trouble if you have to win. They were simply not good enough. Not by much, but not good enough is not good enough.

Indeed. Just imagine the scenes had Iran won the group and kicked out Portugal.

Groups tomorrow as well can potentially get very interesting. Argentina in particular are far from safe. First big casualty perhaps?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Argentina is not going to make it. Nigeria has some quality players, and they're so close, they're not going to let it slip. Especially not against this Argentina, they don't even deserve to go on to the next round. They're among the worst playing teams in the tournament.

They need help from Croatia as well, who are already through and may not be all that bothered.
Argentina have been unbelievably poor really. No plan, just booting the ball up hoping Messi will somehow bail them out.
Even he can't do it all on his own.

Don't forget Argentina's failed coup on the mgr. That ought to make things comfy on the long, ugly flight home.

I am surprised that Iranian player only got a yellow for what looked like a headbutt to the ref. Still both Morocco and Iran should be proud of how they played. They never gave up.

Argentina is a mess right now.

Today's going to be interesting as well. Denmark didn't do themselves any favours with the draw against Australia, so they're going to need some sort of result against France, unless Peru helps them out.

In the other group things could get very messy. Croatia should be able to win against Iceland, which would leave it up to Nigeria and Argentina to decide among themselves. But then Croatia is already through as head of the group, so they might just half ass it. And depending on the number of goals they could easily hop over both Argentina and Nigeria if they grab a victory...

Was playing myself, collectively played like thrash the first half and gave away two goals like dipshits, but an extra time equaliser in the second half does a lot to make the post game beers taste good.

Got home just in time to catch the second half of Nigeria - Argentina.

This Cakir isn't a half bad referee. Under all this presure he allows some fierce play without letting things get out of hand. Pretty nice to see. This is one of those matches that could be "whistled" to death, but he allows quite a lot without letting things go crazy. (I know he has proven himself in the CL several times, but still, stakes are different and emotions at least as high here).

Also, why didn't Argentina play with this keeper from the start... He's miles better than the idiot they had before...

Sigh... great goal. Nigeria showing why African countries never make it far. They were doing great, but then, as happens way too often, the tactical plan disintigrates somewhere during the half into a bunch of individuals still doing great, but just being all over the place as a team and getting the short end of the stick for it...
