I'm really surprised there hasn't been a mass porn bombing yet :embarrassed:

I think I'd like to. BUT - not gross porn.

I'd like to both commit HC-suicide, and also do something nice for the guys on there. So, posting a bunch of boobs, maybe? Nothing gross, just boobs. It would be a way of saying "right, this is it - I'm getting bant. But I'd like to do something nice for you guys while I do it!"

Just an idea...

You can be sure to catch your dose of the Dannness here

I want to name my future son Dann.

Feh... it's already been edited out by The Man.

In 2005, Musician's Friend purchased the popular musician community website [[Harmony Central]]. Harmony Central provides free articles, reviews written by musicians, and discussion forums. Music industry author Craig Anderton is the Editor-in-Chief. In late 2009 the Harmony Central Musician Community Forums began preparing for an update to "HC 2.0." Once forum members were able to gain a sneak peek of the update, the backlash was immediate. The migration to the new version of Harmony Central became hotly debated in the forums and eventually the administrators began listening to the concerns and suggestions made by users. In the process the upgrade was delayed several times, but in April of 2010 the newest incarnation of the Harmony Central Forums was unveiled. Again, the backlash was immediate and many users from the different subforums, some of them registered user for nearly a decade, have left. Several moderators have withdrawn their positions and feedback from members has been overwhelmingly negative. Many current and former members accuse the administration team and Musician's Friend itself of scrapping the long-standing forum's distinctive layout and functionality so that they could instead switch to a system that has more in common with social networking content than a user based forum. In addition to abandoning the needs and desires of their members, the Harmony Central front pages have been radically redesigned and some of the most valuable content has not yet been ported over.

Not my finest journalistic work, but I haven't had to use that stuff in a couple of years now. :embarrassed: It at least isn't an outright violation of the Wikipedia policies.

I voted "yes". I haven't completely given up, but it's hard to see how it's going to get fixed.

If you were able to do that Mark..it would be great. The "lesson loft" is also where I started with HC and where I spend a LOT of time (pre 2.0!) learning..it's a fantastic resource with some truly excellent players/teachers willing to share.

I also think that's a great idea. I would very likely find a lot more time to be here if we had that type thing.

I have a software related forum that I used to use for work that went with Jive about 9-10 months ago when the developer took an active interest in the forum for the first time in years....

They took a community of users that were especially helpful and provided practical real word assistance with tons of information & advice and transformed it into a shite-pile mock social networking site that offers none of the advantages of the old forum and drove a majority of gurus away as a result. They then had to insert their own support staff as more active participants on the forum and as a result of that, the quality of responses went down significantly as they have to tow the corporate line on everything rather than just cut to the chase and solve issues for people.

I'm not necessarily done with HC but they have really killed the appeal of the the site and how I used it at this point.........we'll see what shakes out.

AWESOME. Guess HC must be working pretty hard at making sure it doesn't get out how many people they're losing, instead of actually FIXING THE FUCKING FORUM.

Well, I thought that staying around and trying to get the point across how terrible it is might do some good there, but I am done now. If they don't go back I will not be returning there.

Lovely. I love shooting the shit with you guys, but I'm equally interested in serious discussions about technique and theory, especially from guys like Mark here who are good at explaining things in ways that I can understand. I hope Ralphster will also pop in every now and then and check out my stuff, as I'm interested in his advice as well.

Thanks for being so helpful and easy-going, Mark. I'm sure it's all an act and you're a real asshole IRL, but I'm cool with that. :embarrassed:

It's like some horrible wreck on the highway - you just can't not look at it.

Other than my little spitfights with SadNav and Uma, the biggest draw for me on HC that I don't find here or TGP is their huge and well organized review database.

I am not buying much gear these days, but whenever I buy or sell anything I get great info from there. I haven't looked closely at it lately, but I hear they screwed it up in the migration along with everything else. :(

I find I can do most of the music discussion I would do at HC over at TGP these days.

I never understood why people were getting banned from there, unless they were being especially thick or contrarian. I have never even had a warning, even when I am posting one of my patented "NOT impressed with John Mayer rants" (which is pretty much verboten over there these days) Unlike HC , you get pros posting regularly over there who play for people like Brooks and Dunn, Melissa Etheridge, etc., and even some top people who do movie and studio work. At one point, hilariously, a personal friend of Scott Henderson posted some messages from Scott chewing people out for posting crappy video boots of him on YouTube.
