Let me clarify, I've never said anything rude or discouraging in regards to Britney. I really like her... I'm just openly debating a topic that we disagree on. I think this thread was started when someone else said something derogatory to her. Patrick... there are gay people who are killed, bullied, and discriminated against every day simply because of their sexual orientation. No, they're not treated as property and sold, but as Lancifer stated above, the civil rights movement was not exclusively black. There's no more Chinese railroad work going on.... we've come so far in the past few hundred years in accepting each other as human beings in regards to the outer most layer of our skin. Most of the male versus female inequality has be removed in civil rights... but this is an era where we need to go into the core of who we are as human beings.

Even if genetic differences don't register with you and you believe sexuality is a choice... well religion is a choice as well. Would it be right to only say that Catholics can be married but Methodist, Protestants and Jews are only allowed "Civil Unions" and limited parental rights? There really isn't an argument against gay marriage that doesn't infringe on the first amendment.

Aside from a couple family members I'm not friends with anyone who would post anything like that. I deleted a lot of the ignorance from my facebook last year. It's been a peaceful 2013.

I didn't notice much on mine. Aside from a couple of people I am still in contact with from high school, the majority of my friends think like I do, or don't bother voicing their opinion. I suspect many more of the former than the latter.
 
I got rid of most of the idiots off Facebook so no douchebaggery on my page today. I don't really check my page much anyway..don't really have the time anymore to keep up with it. I'm kind of over my Social Media phase.
 
Ah man, I'm glad you brought that to my attention, lol I can't wait to be deleted :) seriously FB makes me want to puke except when I want people to see what I'm doing, lol PLEASE DELETE ME if you don't like seeing my posts or what I support or not !!! Changing profile pic now.
 
I use facebook primarily to keep in touch with friends, colleagues, and family and I think it's just fine for that. I'm not a frequent status updater, and my favorite bit is the photos of my friends' kids and such with updates of what their families are doing.

I rarely post political stuff because it's not terribly useful, and I have a handful of "friends" (meaning mostly people I knew in high school but wasn't really hanging out friends with them then either) who post lots of religious or in my opinion crazy political crap (usually without checking to see if any of it's true or not). I used to engage them every now and then, but now I don't even bother because if someone is so logic impaired that they think the Obama Administration is targeting them for a drone strike because they're gun rights advocates, there's very little reasoning you can do with them.

Facebook is revealing in that several people who I previously considered rational and intelligent have "outed" themselves with crazy rants. Mostly it's ultraconservative stuff like opposing gay rights and that the Democrats will wreck the country, all the way to the nutter stuff about how the fascist racist communist socialist Muslim illegal immigrant murderer Barack Obama is going to take away all our guns and send secret police to arrest and murder us in our sleep, lol.

It's really shocking when people you thought were rational bust out with that kind of stuff. If nothing else, don't they ever give any though to how crazy and paranoid and brainwashed it looks when they're done typing it all out?

Oh my goodness, this is so true. There are a lot of issues I was really on the fence about, but a lot of the ugliness I see makes me turn completely in the other direction, just so that I can run so very fast away from the irrational arguments I see coming out of people I thought were decent level-headed folks.
