Mojo Request Sister has passed on.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that, Rod. Alcoholism is a motherfucker and its claws dig deep.

All this, yet alcohol can be bought at grocery stores and pot is still illegal in most places... I just don't know.

My alcoholic ex-wife used to get shitty with me about smoking pot, trying to turn it around on me as being an "addict" because I smoke every day. Of course, the fact that I'm in chronic pain and have anxiety issues isn't acceptable, because that's just "stoner excuses." I guess if I was putting away three bottles of wine alongside her every night it would be okay?

Yeah, not all dependencies/addictions are equal.

Thank you all for the outpouring of Mojo. It means a lot.

Today's news isn't good. I got a message from her middle son letting me know she had been taken to the E.R. and is in the ICU. No further details, but it falls in line with stage 4 Hepatic Encephalitis. If so, it's a point of no return. Next would be coma followed in short order by death due to brain hemorrhage or brainstem herniation.

Her poor husband, couldn't be a nicer old guy (I think he's 68?). Adrian (Rob as we call him) is a VERY English bloke with a crazy thick accent no one can understand, and an amazing work ethic from growing up dirt poor in post war England, watched his first wife drink herself to death.

This has got to be unimaginably hard on him.

Guess I'll be making a trip to the Hospital in a bit.

Thanks again all

I went to see her at the hospital today. All 3 of her boys were there along with her husband. It's as bad as I assumed. She was sleeping most of the time I was there. She woke up long enough for me to tell her I loved her. She can't really talk, when she tries to, it's gibberish. She's got internal bleeding but the source/s aren't clear, and she's on her 4th unit of blood. Doctor confirmed liver failure and kidney failure along with the Hepatic Encephalopathy. There is zero chance of improvement.

Her husband and sons all signed off on a DNR last night.

Could be hours, could be a couple of days, but it's a sure thing. I probably won't go back after today. I doubt she'll be any more coherent than she was when I left. I said what needed saying, and I really don't want to see her like that again. I'm making my peace with it as best I can.

Thank you all again for the support.

Remember the good times, when you were kids.

I say this as my dad has dementia and his cancer has returned so he's now in a home. He only has weeks.....I find myself thinking back to the times when I took him for granted and all the sacrifices he made for me so that I (and my 2 sisters) could have the life we now have.
He lives in the UK and I live in Germany and although i just spent two weeks there and saw him every day I know how hard it is to see someone you love become weaker.

Anyway, ill be going back soon, its not cheap to get over but sometimes you just pay and don't think about it.

Good luck, I wish you both all the very best.
