Ricky Gervais does it again.

Watching him last night reminded me of that decade I spent in a Russian salt mine. At least he occasionally stumbled into some humor along the way.

It's just a shame they have to edit out the adult humor. Why is it we're still afraid of fuck and pussy and any other word that might offend someone?
Surely we must be the most puritanical culture anywhere on Earth. Someday they'll have those awards on Netflix and people can say whatever they want.

Tedious and mean and shot through with conspiratorial thinking that looks like speaking truth to power when, in fact, he’s just being nasty to out of touch rich-ish culture types. His whole “and because you have to take jobs under capitalism you can’t say anything about politics” thing was total nihilism.

A bunch of bullshit naughty schoolboy antics.

“I don’t care! Please look at me. Aren’t I naughty?!?”

People are entertained by pain.
They blame others for their own misery and failings and want to see someone "pay for it".

A smash of glass and the rumble of boots
An electric train and a ripped up phone booth
Paint splattered walls and the cry of a tomcat
Lights going out and a kick in the balls
I tell ya that's entertainment, that's entertainment

Might have been interesting if there was any coherent theme to his rants

I can't take awards shows...for a lot of reasons, but at the top of the list is the political rants from award winners. Kudos to Ricky for calling them out on that and their self-importance in general. They're just actors/actresses after all, why would anyone take their advice on anything other than acting?

Plenty of shots of Tom Hanks during that monologue. I couldn't tell if he was laughing or offended.

Well some actors might view the receiving of awards as meaningless in the first place and an opportunity while they have the world’s ear to say something about important issues of the time.

I personally rank political acceptance speeches slightly above long thank you speeches to everyone including the grip, oh and god. Why don’t we have dairy farmer and plumber awards ceremonies?
