Richard Thompson is the greatest strat player that has ever lived

While Richard's a fabulous musician, when I think of Strat players the 3 that immediately come to mind would be Knopfler, Gilmour and Blackmore.
The variety of sounds between those 3 really show what guitar is capable of imo. And then there's Yngwie.

John Mayer? Decent popblues player who thinks that birds and a PRS headstock is acceptable on a Strat. Fuck him.

You need to think more progressive...

It's like if you were talking about running shoes your statement woulda read...."when I think of running shoes the three that immediatly come to mind are Nike, Adidas , and New Balance"....now while there's nothing wrong with that, it's parochial... You are discounting not only the other great ones like Ascics, Brooks but the newer ones really breaking ground like the Hoke One One's, the Inov-8's, the Altra's, the Newton's...all the lesser known ones...see what I'm sayin" ?

Clip should start at 26:25.

Who else is operating at this level? Who else even thinks like this?

I fucking love that song and how much of it he improvises from show to show.

He's pretty much the only reason I want a Strat right now.

Also, let's talk about how great the Trio is. I love how Richard has an awareness of where to give everyone space to shine and older songs don't feel forced into a smaller "box."

So many of my all time fave players are strat players (Thompson, Beck, Knofler, Johnson, etc).

Funny thing is - I'm just not a strat player myself. Lord knows I've tried. I've owned 5 or 6 including a couple really nice ones. But nope....just not the tone/feel for my own playing.
