Richard Thompson is the greatest strat player that has ever lived

do you know the damage that eight seconds of Thompson's voice can do to a person? It starts filling them with delusions of his grandeur. These poor souls endlessly prattle on about his "greatness" and "superiority" to others that are at least his equals or possible superiors. It's a terrible affliction from which there seems no reprieve.

He's a better singer than Jeff Beck, at least.

Emotive? Epic? Sure, those things are true. But it stops there.

Those are the only 2 things I care about when listening to guitar. The stuff Yngwie can do takes more practice to play, but if I never hear his playing again, I will be just fine. If all of Gilmour's work was suddenly destroyed, I would sink into a deep depression.

Actually, I quite like Richard Thompson's voice. The problem appears to be on your end.

You've sen my original post in this thread, so you know what's really happened. The other associated adverse effect is the inability to recognize the problem. It's too late for you, Flam, and 23...as well as many others.

I've been trying to learn quite a bit of RT's work lately, and without a Strat the electric stuff just doesn't sound or feel right. Like @Flamencology said, Hendrix is probably the only player I can think of ahead of Thompson with his Stratiness.

What I find interesting about the list we're compiling—Hendrix, Beck, Vaughn, Knopfler, Thompson, Gilmour, etc.—is that those guys are all instantly recognizable in a way that doesn't happen as often with humbucker players. The Stratocaster lends itself to creating a more distinct signature, I think.
