post a guitar from your childhood that you used to GAS for

When I was a kid I wanted a Rickenbacker 325 just like John Lennon's. Thirty years later, I finally got a 350V63, which is pretty much the same thing but with a full-scale neck.

I also wanted one of those Dan Armstrong clear plexi guitars. My brother found one, but after trying it out I decided I didn't like it.

It´s off topic in this thread, but I show a pic I found of the first electric guitar I had. Guess I got it in 1964 something, which made me king at school. It´s a red Hagström Kent, made of pure plastic. Because of that guitar I was invited to play with some older guys. That band didn´t last for so long, but the bassist plays now in my present band.

I was a big SRV nut when I was young. Still like him a lot, but I don't really want this anymore.

my dream guitar when i was about 14 or 15 was the ESP Stephen Carpenter model. one of the guys from Strung Out played it, and i just HAD to have it.

up until about 10 years ago, my dad was making a good bit of money in the car business. he used to spoil the shit out of me. im not ashamed to admit it.

so for christmas, i kept telling my dad, I REALLY WANT THE STEPHEN CARPENTER MODEL! blah blah...

so i was thinking yeah.. hell figure this out and get it for me.

and then a few days later, hes like "have you ever seen that ESP with the skull and cross bones? what do you think about that?" -- and of course "naw, thats lame.. I really only like the Stephen Carpenter model"

Christmas comes around.. i start to unwrap the big guitar shaped box and then i saw the ESP symbol on the case and i thought "THANK YOU DAD, YOU GOT ME THE STEPHEN CARPENTER I WANTED! "

i open the case up and its the ESP Kirk Hammett model.

of course i was gonna act happy and what not. my dad just dropped 2k on a really nice guitar that i didnt want or ask for.. i hung on to it for a few months and then sold it for a LP custom.

To be honest though, the KH model played REALLY nice. it just looked so damn cheesy. the neck-thru was from heaven though.

That guitar sounded insanely brutal through my 5150/Marshall Cab halfstack. emg's.

and did you ever end up getting it?

here's one that I used to love!!! I remember walking into Sam Ash when I was 9 years old and I remember wanting this guitar. I never got this exact model, but I have owned 2 Jems before...

i'd love to have this now, but they are pretty freakin rare

I'm sorry but that guitar is uglier than Roseanne Barrs A-hole.

Since I was 15, I knew someday I'd get a National resonator. Two years ago I finally got it.

Man, I LOVED that guitar. I wanted one in green and that blue he used to have... one of the hottest guitars ever.

I actually liked the Hammett a lot too... my only beef would be the Floyd as I really don't care about a trem much. Still, those guitars had amazing necks.

You hatin on the middle humbucker?

heh yeah.. i mean i still loved my Dad for it. its impossible to not be grateful when your dad is willing to spend that kinda money on a guitar.

i mean, it WAS a really nicely constructed guitar. but.. just didnt fit me, even though it was perfect for the sound i was lookin for at the time. ya know.. EMG 80/81s + original 5150 w/ the mids completely scooped.

like that, except it was all black.

what's not to understand? you got your single coil in the neck and then 2 humbuckers. the strat quack is eliminated and replaced with teh brootalz. i just don't like green guitars.

...not so much anymore...although, I would rock the HH version...I dont know what it was about the Jaguar, but as a 13 year old kid, it was like the Rolls Royce (or Jaguar, ha!) of the SamAsh selection...

Humbucker in the middle and then a slanted single coil in the neck? Why the slant? And why that direction? You would think that the 6th string would be closer to the bridge if you were trying to get some sort of EQ advantage.

I know its only a Squier, but for whatever reason, the neck SC on the '51 is slanted the same way, so there must be some kind of logic to it. idn_smilie
