On the road!

I failed my On The Road duties yesterday when walking downtown. I see, then hear what I believe to be a mid-60's Ferrari 275 GTS cruising between the buildings. Instead of pulling out my phone for a picture, I stopped with my jaw hanging to absorb the visual and aural experience, followed by the fumes of rich Ferrari exhaust.

Oh no you di-int!

where the heck do you live? those things are only a few MILLION dollars.

It had to be a mega-attorney or the like. With 120,000 millionaires and 15 billionaires, there are a few decent cars around occasionally in Houston. The Jones brothers have 6 cars in a sealed vault, one is a Bugatti and one is a 427 AC Cobra. Not sure what the others are since they try to keep such things secret.

By the local Panera Bread store I saw an odd car, I have no idea what it was.

It looked like a '57 Chevy, but was the size of a Nash Cosmopolitan (a very small 2-seater).

Any ideas what it could've been? I wish I had my camera with me :(

No pics, but I saw a powder blue Aventador the other day in town. Not the first one I've seen, but the color of it in the daylight was just stunning. Majestically evil car.

Smaller, no 2nd window behind the driver. A little bit of fin, too. Not much, but a little bit.

Kinda like if you took a Smartcar and dressed it up with the styling of a '57 Chevy. But this was a real, old, car. Not some modern knockoff.

Believe it or not, the friend of a friend w/ the Huracan has bought snow tires for it and is using it as a winter daily driver. He sent a pic the other day of it covered in road salt and muck.

Unacceptable.

even worse? the wife's winter beater is a Continental GT. #firstworldproblems
Geez.

I have a neighbor here at the new house, who owns a Red Z06 Corvette... every Saturday thus far, despite both the drought restrictions and the standard HOA bullshit about washing cars in your driveway, this asshole backs his shitburger out of the garage, spends two hours washing and detailing his precious flaming turd, then pulls it back into his garage.

I have yet to see it leave the driveway.

Meanwhile, he leaves the hose running for two hours each time and creates a soapy river flowing down the hill.

Dick.

I have a co-worker exactly like that. He's got a C6 'vert that he drives maybe twice a year but obsesses over it every weekend. I guess whatever if it makes him happy but it seems pointless.

Well, this might qualify as the weirdest damned "car" I have EVERY seen. Spotted it on the way home from picking kids up at school. Sorry for the limited/crappy pics, I had my son try and take a few and send them to my phone.

So without further adieu:

I first spotted it across the intersection from me where it was waiting to turn left. I saw the unmistakable Alfa Romeo fascia and did a double take. Something was WAY off even from that distance. The engine bay seemed way too narrow... it just wasn't registering.

Then it turned left in front of me and I quite loudly exclaimed WTF!

So, we have an Alfa grill mated to a side by side cowling similar to an MG TD, the windshield back is from an MGB. I have no idea what the power plant or layout is, but while sitting behind it I noted the extended rear fenders. Underneath, it had a solid rear axle on LEAF SPRINGS! It also had what appeared to be a Chevy truck differential.

Also, a Michigan plate designating it as an historic vehicle.

Seriously?

It looked shoddily assembled by some shade tree mechanic in some garage. Lady driving it, appeared to be maybe in her sixties.

I was tempted to follow and ask questions, but bailed out when my turn came up. Now I sort of wish I had, just to get an idea of what in Hell it is.

It looks like the result of getting Stevie Wonder totally looped on cough syrup and asking him to draw a Plymouth Prowler as you describe its physical traits between huffing shots of Nitrous Oxide from a balloon.

I see this rolling around town all the time, but never have been able to get a picture before today. Local business uses this beast daily. It looks brand new inside and out. Amazing. @Mark Wein should love it.

While I was looking in my ancient photobucket folder for Skyline pics, I found these from that same trip to Symbolic Motors back in 2008?

The super dark photo is actually a Veyron on a lift getting serviced. These are all just random cars at their repair facility that day.
