I don't think you need the (sarcasm). I know where you stand

There are plenty of Orwellian things taking place all around us, everyday. Removing statues and symbols of treasonous bigots and war criminals is not among those things. It's not erasing history (as the Conservapublicans so love to do), it is a long overdue and fully righteous process of ridding our landscape of artifacts that celebrate the worst offenders and symbols of America's darkest days. Having them on display was very Orwellian.

If they erected a statue of Emperor Hirohito on the grounds of an old Japanese internment camp, everybody would lose their fucking minds (and rightly so). Same difference.

Should African Americans in the South be forced to see the publicly funded and maintained homages to brutal slave owners who fought a prolonged and bloody campaign to secure their right to remain such?

Fuck that.

The delusion and misery goes even deeper than that. The Civil War at its core can be expressed thusly...Wealthy elitist plantation owners and generals conspire to utilize racial propaganda to enlist/draft/conscript tens of thousands marginalized white dirt farmers and force them, under penalty of death, to serve as cannon fodder in the trenches of Gettysburg.

Why? Because they didn't care to pay a meager wage to blacks nor a meager tax on those wages.

But wait there's more! The Emancipation, Jim Crow, Civil Rights Movement, etc...that's all gonna happen anyway with or without the Civil War. Slavery and its economic model were completely unsustainable long-term and they knew it. They went ahead and rounded up a few hundred thousand of their best and brightest and sent them to an early grave as a one-in-million longshot that they could maybe buy another 20-30 years or so.

Pure.Fucking.Evil.

Do you have a meme for this one, @mikesr1963 ?

Somehow calling someone a loser who just blew themselves up doesn't have much bite. And they would "like" to be called monsters?? They think they're saints carrying out god's will. Until people start to wake up to the religious aspects of this terrorism, they're going to act just as surprised at every subsequent attack (as they continue to do now). These young men and women believe they are going instantly to paradise with god as soon as they are blown up. They don't see themselves as evil.

And it's the nature of all 3 monotheistic religions, whether they are passive or violent. Christians looks at unbelievers as unfortunate souls who will end up tortured for eternity in hell if they don't find Jesus. They may not attack you or act mean towards you (unless they are Trump supporters), but they ultimately think of you as eternal human waste material unless you change your mind about Jesus before you die. That's viewing a large percentage of the world as something sub-human or disposable in your eternal world view.

Not all Muslims are terrorists, but you might want to ask passive Muslims if they believe the 9/11 terrorists went to paradise or hell in the afterlife. You never hear moderate Muslim leaders who do condemn terrorist attacks state that the attackers went to hell. As long as there is reservation about the main belief that would motivate someone to become a suicide bomber, the support system remains.

Either the religion itself has to be clear about condemning such acts, in spiritual terms in a way that would discourage young men or women from ever risking eternal damnation for committing a suicide bombing . . . . Or we should be dropping informational tracts in these hotbeds of recruitment giving reasons from people like Richard Dawkins and other prominent scientists of why god does not exist and they are steeped in ignorance and superstition. Including American christian churches and Israel. Time to quit dragging the knuckles catch up with our human social evolution.

I know plenty of Muslims who believe what you just accused them of being silent about.

They don't have much of a voice, though, either through media, through politics, or through personality.

Until they find that voice then the point is kinda moot though. And honestly, wouldn't this be more of a generational change in attitudes as far as that part of the world changing how they view these matters? I would think that your views on the afterlife would be pretty set by a certain point. This is admittedly coming from a person with very little religious instruction in any religion much less Islam, so take it for what it is worth.

Yes and no. In parts of the West, especially in the US, they're a minority group who are victims of racism and cultural bias and discrimination.

No matter how strongly they advocate for peace, they're not going to be invited regularly to any cable news network. And if they are, they'll be silenced by the fact that they're part of a panel of a half-dozen screaming talking heads.

The ability to listen is every bit as important here as the ability to speak freely; ignorance is complacency as well.

You've shared many posts of examples of racism and bigotry from white people.

has trump lost his mind?

This assumes he ever had one...other than for hiring people to help him screw others out of money. Not an enviable skill for those that care about anything other than themselves. As such, he's always been completely unfit for public service...especially the highest level public service position in our nation.

Fuck him and his stupidity.

I can believe that. Unfortunately even when a cleric from some local mosque is interviewed on the news in a town where an attack has taken place, they always fall short of condemning the men/women in spiritual terms for their actions. It would help.

Not sure racism is the proper term, although there are Americans who are racist and hate any group coming over, and have killed Sikhs thinking they were Muslims. Islam is only 1400 years old, many of the people who are Muslims today (many forced into that religion historically like Christians during the Inquisition) have ancestors who practiced Zoroastrianism. And there are followers of that religion today who are persecuted in Iran and other countries where it is still practiced. In fact ISIS is destroying ancient sites exemplifying the heritage and culture of their own race. Even if other Muslims didn't destroy those sites, they are considered the achievements of infidels. The "cradle of civilization" was just populated with mere infidels.

The 3 monotheistic religions at their very best, are divisive and devalue all people who are not followers of their same faith. And there are death penalties in countries who practice Sharia law for apostasy - which just means deciding not to follow Islam any longer. This is all outside of terrorism, just the rule of law most Muslims believe the world should be governed by.

These ideas are dangerous and always have been. But before oil and wealth in the Middle East it didn't affect anyone in the western world, and thus no one cared. It took centuries for the Christian religion to splinter into so many opposing groups until people finally realized that religion and government had to be separated, and differences had to be respected. Islam still needs several generations of apostates and blasphemers in order for people to let go of an idea that there is one correct religion belief that can be legislated. Unless the people you're talking about start speaking up and being heard, it'll never happen. Islam needs a 95 theses nailed to the Wittenberg door.

"We're cutting Medicaid and food stamps because we can't expect taxpayers to pay for people to take unfair advantage of government programs." *jets off to Florida for the umpteenth time*

That's a simple benefit of his position. The bigger issues are the multiple bankruptcies he's filed and even his bragging about avoiding paying taxes. The king shit of loopholes always looking out for himself.

I've never had a problem with paying taxes, especially to support programs for those far less advantaged than I. Apparently I live in the wrong country from that perspective. Medicaid and food stamps...fine with me. Universal health care? Increase my taxes and make it happen, I'm in.

It's the biggest issue I have with so many self proclaimed Christians in the U.S. that ignore Jesus's real teaching. WWJD? He'd make sure everyone was taken care of...per their book, that's why he died. Incomprehensible hypocrites.
