OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

trumpcare is not a health care bill. its a massive tax cut for anyone making above 200k and it guts medicaid to pay for it. it doesn't address any of the problems or offer any solutions.

the insurance companies are the problem and they spend so much buying politicians its going to be tough to actually get positive changes.

I often wonder if health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies would make the same amount of money if cut all of the lobbying, donating to super PACS and taking free lunches to medical practices and paying the folks who take the free lunches to the practices and just let the market be. For a group that praises the free market, they sure do a lot to make the market not free.

Has it ever been proven that lobbying doesn't pay? I'm gonna guess no, and that's why they do it.

Its not only lobbying. When I lived in FL, I worked for a gastroenterology practice. It was pretty large, 4 or 5 locations, but still in the grand scheme of things, a small little practice. I would say 3 to 4 days a week a different pharmaceutical company brought lunch for the entire practice. And the rep who would bring it, was very well dressed and drove a nice car (indicating they were paid well.) They brought it to the main office and it was enough to feed 50+ people. I can't imagine we were the only office in the area, state, or country that had lunch brought to them. So the salary for the rep and all of the food, multiplied out has to be significant. Put that all in with the lobbying costs and it is huge. I would love to have access to how much these companies pay to lobbying, lunches, super PACs and see how much they get in return for their investment.

Shortly after last week’s vote on the Republicans’ health care plan, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) said, “Is this bill good? No, I don’t like it.”

Diaz-Balart, however, voted for the legislation he doesn’t like.

Over the weekend, Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), reflecting on the same bill, conceded, “This is not the bill we promised the American people.” Amash voted for it, too.

Not shocking. They didn't get to read the entire bill and they were probably threatened with lack of backing in the next election or the possibility of another candidate in the primaries so they caved. Screw the country as long as I keep my seat, that's the GOP motto.

They’re scared that Trump will endorse, campaign for, and even fund primary challengers. Right now Democrats are gloating because they think Trumpcare votes will allow them to pick up a few House seats. But the GOP is scared shitless that not passing Trumpcare will give Democrats control of the House if Trump’s favored candidates move into the general elections. I wouldn’t be surprised if the party asked Priebus to take the White House job just to monitor this stuff.

I can't remember a bill where almost every democrat voted for it (without a single republican voting for it) then hearing many of them say, I didn't read it or the bill is bad. These folks are publicly saying, I don't like the bill, but I voted for it or I didn't read it, but I voted for it. That is bad.

It is bad. But really, all anyone cares about is staying in power.

Trump needs something to boost his popularity.

How about: "I'll get the GOP memebers in the government to get this crap plan pushed through everything right up until it hits my desk and then I'll veto it saying that it's not what I promised the people."

Waste of time? "I don't care. I'm popular now."
Submarined fellow party members? "I don't care. I'm popular now."
Pissed off a lot people that voted for me? "Not as many as the people that like me now. I don't care. I'm popular now."

It's diabolical. It would probably work.

Then what (in terms of healthcare)?
It's not really a win. It's a complete reset. Frustrating and hopeful at the same time.

Do I really think it will happen?
No idea. However, sometimes I worry about how my brain works.

If Trump wasn't an idiot, I'd buy it. I don't think he can come up with something like that.

Well, I didn't say it was his plan, but he'd go along.

In order to give it any kind of legs, we'd have to figure out who else stands to gain from such a turn of events and then consider whether or not they are smart enough AND have enough of Trump's ear to put the idea in his head.

Old friend of yours, maybe?
