OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

If people would move based on taxes, everyone would move to Alaska. No state income tax or sales tax. That hasn't happened. People are no more likely to move for taxes than they are to move to the blues or red states of America.

They will once their tax breaks are erased. There isn't a single person alive who has owned a home, and not gotten the property tax break.

People don’t move to Alaska to save on taxes because almost everything sold retail in Alaska is very expensive. A quart of orange juice can go for $60 or more depending on the time of year. But Texas and Colorado are full of people who moved there to start businesses because they didn’t want to pay the high taxes in California and New York. When we moved out of New York we picked Colorado over New Jersey largely because of the high tax rates in New Jersey (which are not reflected in the quality or quantity of services).

But would you also move if you were living in some red state hell to a nice blue state? I'm sure your decision wasn't solely based on taxes. If so there are plenty of other states with no state income tax or sales tax.

your logic may or may not be correct. you used alaska as an example, but alaska is a freakin' glacier 10 months of the year. so there's that.

spicey blames obama for flynn's security clearance.

didn't obama fire flynn well before trump hired him??
Details or reality just don't matter, it's all about perception.

The admins power comes from the support of DJTs base. As long as the rabid base supporters still believe & are faithful, he still has leverage with the GOP. If he loses that leverage, then these things will start to matter a little more

Good luck selling your house in a state that doesn't get a property tax break. You won't be moving anywhere

I rent. I would consider buying in the NYC area. I will not consider it if I can't take the taxes off on my federal return though. Maybe I'll move to Colorado. They pay next to nothing in property taxes.

Not entirely true. Rich folks here in CA are moving to TX for that very reason.

I remember how the people I worked with in Rockwell International enjoyed the move from Downey in the late 80's. They sold modest houses there, but to avoid getting taxed on the difference when buying a similar type of home here, they were buying newly constructed houses on the golf course and having to upgrade the property to up the price even higher. At the end of the contract years later, most stayed here.

If I had a choice on where to live in Texas, it would be near Austin or Kerrville in the hill country.

Some rich folks from CA moved here to Idaho (SV area, Blaine County), and have purpled up our blue county here, a little bit. Though we are still mostly blue. Seemed to be Irvine types, and a few USC types.

It isn't just taxes. Overall cost of living, taxes are just a part of it. Have you ever watched that HGTV show in Texas? I can't believe how cheap the houses are there.
