Question: Official Music League Thread

@Motorik I've got you pegged boy :embarrassed:

In true Chicago scene fashion I was concerned that claiming “Chicago” whilst being from the burbs by posting any of the legendary Chicago bands....”

Jeremy was from right here where I live..... his widow is from nearby, and moved back here a few years ago. (and Vi is getting so big... I hardly recognize her anymore.)

I debated about including it or not, but thought "Dammit... they DESERVE to be in this playlist and get some love and appreciation for our fellow forumite!!..."

Hopefully everyone can just appreciate that we all got to enjoy a great band and a great fucking song! :baimun:

I had no idea that was Jeremy's band!

Take it up with Steve Albini. See how things go at the Crossed Arms and Cop Jacket Court of Appeals.

Speaking of covers, I'm hovering around rather drunk in the rear playing Djembe with a big old band I used to be in. Fun times, Chic headlined the main stage that evening and what a day it was :baimun::beer:

Of course they deserve to be on the playlist. But they are from Chicago. You played a trump card and furthered your lead. Butthead. :bigg::catfight::mock:

Let’s all turn our attention to Chicago’s hometown college football heroes — the Notre Dame Fighting Irish!

Frankly, if I were baimun I would have posted “Welcome to the Jungle” featuring Lafayette, Indiana’s own W. Axl Rose. I mean, GNR did a punk covers album once.

I debated about it for a bit, but ultimately remembered that whenever the Run Around would play the Midway Tavern on 4th street in Mishawaka... they would point out that it was a "hometown show" for Jeremy.

It's tragic that Jeremy's funeral was 4 blocks from that venue... and several of us from the forum were there. Ultimately, I'm glad if even 2 or 3 people got the chance to hear that KILLER tune that had never heard it before.

There are many more weeks to go and I could VERY easily suck ass with a pick on a single week like I did in week two and blew the 9 point lead from the first week (Black Pumas are a GREAT fucking band and I was happy with that pick if it had ended up with zero votes). It also goes without saying that many times when we have done things with prizes, something usually gets kicked back to Mark to help him run the page, so whomever wins I'm sure will probably do something similar. :baimun:

some highly contentious individuals in there. :annoyed:

Boy howdy. Thats why it’s amusing to get to turn even a little bit of cartoon Chicago scene ire on the least punk Hoosier to ever rock a crab shack.

Though MU330 is a Nth-wave ska band from the St. Louis area where in the 90s/00s some ding dongs apparently just used Hoosier as a synonym for redneck/hick/yokel/shitkicker.

I know more than I should about 90s/00s skacore revival bands because I have some friends/acquaintances who were into that scene…including dudes in Hot Stove Jimmy who were probably Chicago’s 2nd best anti-ska ska band after the Blue Meanies who were briefly kind of a minor deal—also my wife and our friend Aya totally had the hots for one or more members of the Meanies so I’ve seen them a bunch.

Anyway, You Weren’t There totally captures the general oppositionalness that is “the Chicago way.” And a failure to grasp that bemused contrarian thing is how natives can sniff out bands/writers/cultural products that don’t belong. “This smells bad; taste it” could well be the city’s motto.

If one is interested in a fictionalized account of Chicagoland’s suburban milieu, Joe Meno’s Hairstyles of the Damned does a fine job and features a number of Peen-area locations…no mention of the bullshit woods behind the parking lot, however.

Well, a bunch of the obvious choices were already taken this round.

You know I'm just busting your balls. When the theme came up they were the first band I thought of and I'm just jealous. I'm super glad I got to see them when I lived in Chicago.

New round is almost live, just waiting for @Bones McHorror . This topic gives us a lot of leeway for choosing cool songs, I kept changing and rechanging my pick. Should be a really good round. :thu:

I'm betting I get zero votes this round even though I love the song I chose.

I started with a song I love, and I am pretty sure would get lots of votes. Then changed to a less obvious one. I am more interested in having fun and listening to a variety of music than winning.
