NO SPOILERS: I am about to see teh Star War

This thing is on Disney+ now, so having missed it in the theater I thought I'd better watch it now.

And wow... this is a bad movie. Really bad. I knew it wouldn't be great, but this is truly breathtaking in its ineptitude. I endured about a half hour before turning it off. The illiterate opening crawl, the pointless emperor clone, the airless golem of Carrie Fisher reading off lines clearly meant for a different script, the cringeworthy comedy, and the utter lack of continuity with anything that came before. Garbage. It's going to be a struggle to finish this one.

Hopefully Taika Waititi can save this franchise, because Abrams and Kennedy have made an utter shambles of it.

If you’d have told me in the 80s that there would be a 9th SW movie completing the series and I wouldn’t even care to watch it, I’d have said you were crazy.

But here we are...
 
Still haven't seen it and we have Disney+
Just not that interested anymore. And that's saying a lot considering I saw Empire in the theater.

I need to say, I disagree with every single bit of this. I just finished it and IMO...Hot damn!
What a great fucking movie! Opening crawl? It kick started right away!
I'm willing to be the outsider here. I fucking loved it. I sat back, solid buzz, and just enjoyed it. Y'all are crazy.
I do not, in any way, understand the hate. I've been a fan since this started. I was born the year A New Hope came out. Episodes 1-3? Fuck them. But this was good. Very, very good.
 
I think maybe you're all forgetting that Rey jumps over a speeding Tie Fighter and then chops its wing off.

This is one of many entertaining Jedi moments.

I liked the film, I can't really understand the hate.
 
It was an entertaining spectacle with a terrible script and I barely remember it 4 months later.

It’s an unsatisfying mess. It’s more like big teevee than a real movie. This whole trilogy is a dumpster fire because no one had a vision or a story to tell. They had a property and a cast and a guarantee to make a shit-zillion dollars and they went with the first things that popped in their heads.

I am a dissenter because I actually liked the first film. Admired it for keeping things clean and uncluttered. It took its time, didn’t jump locations every 30 seconds, took time to breathe and enjoy its surroundings, its characters were likeable and nice to spend time with, etc. It stuck with the original series formula, but hey, it worked.

Second film was a total mess, but it was an interesting and challenging mess with some bright moments to counter the bad ones.

Third... just the dumbest thing I’d seen all year. It felt like the filmic equivalent of an Exquisite Corpse, patched together by dozens of different teenage fan fiction writers with unlimited budgets and a pathetic desperation to please everyone.

Let’s remake 300, but in the Star Wars universe and with a clone Emperor as the big bad (#EveryoneLovesClones, am I right?) ... except that, in the end, the Spartans slaughter the massive Persian forces, and everybody lives!

Every single artistic choice in that script is a bad and boring one.

I agree that the first one was safe but comfy and likable. The new cast did a fine job and the characters were likable. Harrison Ford actually showed up for a role, which is a treat. It was fine as a soft reboot table-setting endeavor. I was kind of excited to see where it would go after that.

The Last Jedi is a fiasco but it is intriguing and interesting and made by someone who had some serious ambitions but kinda didn’t pull it off. It was as you said an interesting mess. Parts of it were stunning. Parts were way not stunning. I think it was the best looking film of the three new ones, though TFA also looked swell.

Rise of Skywalker was plot wise and thematically awful. It was total garbage and put all the lack of vision and planning on display. It’s a shit film and should put Abrams in the doghouse for a decade for being trash
