new kitchen jam: gas v induction (plus anything else we should be thinking about?)

I was hoping to get away with not having to do the floors until the new year but between that room being lifted and the washing machine being knocked through the wall and plumbed under the floor boards in an adjacent room, and our damp, oppressive winters, Ill need to get the finger out
Units are here and starting to go in. We went for the pre built ones so that shouldn't take too long. He reckons everything will be signed off by Wednesday, possibly even Tuesday.

Base cabinets are in. Just waiting on the floor to ceiling cabinets to be dropped in on the right hand wall, appliances hooked up, sink plumbed in and worktop installed. Incredible it only started a week ago!
The pictures don't do justice to how big the space feels. I'm over the moon how it's turned out all from a random comment my dad made about opening the wall up and moving the fridge when we first moved in.

Final fitting tomorrow and probably a bit of last minute snagging on Friday. I'm at the football tomorrow night so we wouldn't be cooking anything anyway. Nothing planned o Saturday afternoon so we can get everything back in place.
The nights are drawing in and the lighting isn't going in until tomorrow so the worktops looked a bit meh last night because we couldn't really see them properly.
Got up this morning with natural light and they look fantastic against the Matt navy units
My mate has run by a few minor things that another fitter would probably have ignored and we wouldn't have noticed until it was too late - superfluous spotlight that would sit right above the hood overhang, worktop joint he's not 100% happy with, depth of shelving for gadgets etc... super happy with how everything has gone.

It's done!!! They sent the wrong built in bin but we can deal with that without too much fuss. Photos don't do it justice it's stunning and the fit and finish at first glance is fantastic.

no, it's the I've dropped it in the hot tub multiple times at the old place so the lens is snookered filter
European tie at the football tonight so I was home for a very quick look after work then out and away to the stadium. I'm back home now and have spent the best part of an hour just standing around taking it all in like a weirdo touching everything and playing with the drawers. Again, the photos don't do it justice at all - the matt marine blue is gorgeous and very modern. the worktop that mrs JBJ chose ties it in beautifully.
I grew up in a very deprived scheme and now and again I get pangs of imposter syndrome through my work but it means a lot being able to kick on and showing my parents and gran something like this is amazing.
My phone is dead so no photos just now but I cooked our first meal in it tonight.
Thick cut sirloin and ribeye, parmesan hasselback potatoes, fried baby tomatoes and mushrooms with a red wine pan sauce. Was delicious.
We've started moving everything into place but not in. rush - the old kitchen was such a shit show for flow and storage I want us to nail it so everything works and makes sense. Couple of things to grab off of amazon for storage but it's shaping up pretty nice.
We need some bar stools too for the breakfast bar. Mrs JBJ is obsessed with this brand Kartel which by all accounts make plastic see through furniture. Very expensive plastic see through furniture - the kind that you'd scrap the first time you sat in with a pair of jeans. I'm doing my best to fend off that purchase.

I ordered a really cool double pull out thing for a dead cabinet we have. I managed to fit it in with about 3mm to spare only to realise that the smaller drawers catch on the upright in the middle of the cabinet.
It just needs a few notches of a couple of inches cut out but f*** me, I went at it with a multi tool and all types of blades, a hacksaw and eventually a full handsaw and I'm still not done. It's laminated chipboard so no idea why it's giving me so much hassle but I've given up for the night. I'm going to come back with a chisel and failing that, I have a reciprocating saw and at that point I won't care if the cuts aren't particularly neat.
Everything else is sweet. It's a genuine pleasure to clean in. I've already managed to stain the mastic with something red that I can't quite get out at this point but I don't care, it's kind of like getting that first ding on the guitar, it sucks but at least you know it's being played.

I've started rewatching the bear so doing hot italian beef tonight. Broke out the le Crueset Dutch oven and now Mrs jbj is online shopping for Le Crueset mugs, for tea and coffee, which we rarely drink!

I expect that we’ll go through this once all the cabinets are in.
I purposely did not ask for stuff like this for 3 reasons:
it would cost more to have someone else install them.
I’m not 100% sure which cabinets will need them.
I REALLY don’t want the wire rack style and would rather have the wood tray style. That may be up in the air depending on in which cabinets we install this sort of solution.
