Most of us would still agree that shorts are not gig wear....

Whaaaa ??!!??
i have 3 pair of them.
one pair for actual wearing, with leather top and adjustable leather strap
one pair of rubber duckies that like my feet in their ass
and one pair made from two inside out guinea pigs for wearing around the house in winter. very warm and cozy. :thu:

Fixed. :helper:

I have never owned any of those rubber sex toys for feet. :helper:
i found a pic of my "good" crocs.

My personal rule is shorts are only ok on a gig if there is water I might get in… could be a swimming pool, river, lake, bayou.

I work outside all the time in jeans. It’s 100 today, I’m pretty sure with the heat index it’s feels like 115. It’s not great and I bitch plenty, but I do it. At least for gigs I can wear linen.

For a gig on the water in the summer, I think shorts are ok.

I'm old and heat sensitive, so I just won't play in a band if they insist I wear jeans on a hot outside gig. It's just not worth it anymore. Shorts all the way, all the time. I played in a country band a few years ago where we had to wear black jeans and cowboy boots and a cowboy hat no matter how hot it was, and I was miserable.

Particularly with fake climate change cranking the summer temps up, I just don't see the upside to it unless it's a very high paying formal wedding gig in the summer or something.

We did a gig last Friday in an outdoor amphitheater that was so miserably hot and humid that the band leader threw up on the sidewalk after teardown. Probably the only reason I didn't was that I absolutely refused to push myself if I started feeling queasy.

It really depends on the gig. I've probably played 25-30 gigs this summer and most of them were outdoors wearing khaki pants because that's the "uniform" for the gig. If I'm playing with All Star Trio and it is hot outside there is a good chance all of us might wear shorts, but no cargo shorts, athletic wear or bathing suits. It just depends on the gig and the situation.

I will be wearing swim trunks while we are setting up the barge, but I got some lightweight grey beach pants for during the show.

My very first ‘real’ gig pic as a kid, was opening for Marie Osmond on the fairground stage… any time I share the pic now days I have it cropped… because I was wearing white 80’s shorts. :embarrassed:

You can’t say that then not share the pic.

This conversation is dumb every time we have it. If you're a working band playing real gigs, you're going to work less if the client has to look at your shins. If you're playing sublime covers or original metal, it doesn't matter what you wear because you're audience doesn't have taste. If you're Bob Weir, do what you like because you don't know how to use a computer so you won't hear us complain.

Yeah, that's why even if it's 100 degrees and I'm uncomfortable I'm going to cover my legs... I hate seeing pics or videos when I've worn shorts, because you can't see the thermometer in the pic.

Like after I saw this vid from 8 or 9 years ago, I started making everyone pack up all the cases, unused gear, etc between sound check and the show... and it was the only time I ever played barefoot. AAAGGHHH... I hate my bare feet!!! :embarrassed:

EDIT: Just noticed, that was my early rig... Acoustic only. I have since modded my T5 with dual outputs so I can blend acoustic and electric sounds simultanously, both to cut through the mix and play solos. :baimun:
