Love for Vox Guitars?

So I had not played the one Vox guitar I have for probably a few months. I took it out a couple days ago. Short story - this is so nice I can't believe I only have one Vox guitar. Last night I A/B'd (is that a word) my Vox SDC33 against my PRS Mira. The Mira and Gibby LP Standard Pro are probably the two most pricey guitars I have. Anywho, to me the Vox is right up there in quality w/ the USA PRS. The Vox says Indonesia on the headsttock - the PRS is USA made. I played them both thru my Vaporizier. Tried coil tap, and both bridge and neck PUP's. I would say the PRS has slightly clearer PUP's - but the Vox PUP's are hotter. So one not really better - just different.

Thoughts on Vox guitars?

Well, I know that they were pretty good guitars that just didn't catch on. GC and MF were blowing them out for stupid prices.

Prince has been using them recently, so there's a pretty good unofficial endorsement :)

Ditto what CBHScott said. A store near me was carrying them and I gave a few a try. They were nice guitars.

They should have been a bigger hit than they were.

Never found interest in the guitars themselves but those pickups are really interesting.

Whats the difference between the 33 and the 55 [besides price]. The descriptions seem to have the exact same spec's?

Edit** I looked on you tube and now know the difference is in the amount of pick up variations. A interesting guitar too bad they are discontinued. The pick ups are unique

I've never ran into one in person. I remember when MF was blowing them out. What kept me from pulling the trigger was made in Indonesia. Jello, and somebody else, HIAR?, bought G&L Ascaris, and say they are great. Also MII. So it's safe to buy MII guitars now? I know made in China is a lot better than they were.

The only difference I can see is 55 has Mahogany with ash top, and 33 has Mahogany with bound maple top.

They were good guitars introduced at too high a price. At a lower price people would have bought them. At the prices Vox wanted people wouldn't take the risk that they weren't just Asian crap with a Vox logo. Vox should have done what Fender did when they took over Gretsch; start cheap and then raise the price every six months.

I recall there was some difference in pickup modes between these as well. I can't remember the details, but I think the 33 could do humbucker and single coil, and the higher end models also had a p90 sound too. Also, the low end 33 was made in Indonesia, the 55 in Korea, and the 77 in Japan, if I recall it correctly. I heard, regardless of country of origin, these were decent guitars.

You are right - 3 way PUP mode vs 2 way (33's)

Reprise: I A/B'd the Mira & the SDD33 agsin tonight. You know - I think I prefer the Vox. Anyone want to buy a low mileage PRS Mira?

I liked them enough. I was just never on the market for a $1k Korean guitar (except the Variax, but that's a different best.)
