Our user id standard is first initial, then first six characters of your last name. If that combination was rude, the user could get it changed. Paula Enis became paenis, for example.

However, we had a Tracy Watts who thought her user id was hilarious and refused to submit a request to change it. The CIO had to get involved because nobody would change her ID without her signature on the paperwork (this was probably 20 years ago).

LDAP's are definitely configurable by IT. Ours are firstname@... unless there is more than one, then it is first.last.

A friend at a past company was an early employee, and has madsci@... for Mad Scientist.
