My oldest started girl scouts this year because all of her friends have been doing it forever. She really just goes and hangs out with them and didn't even bother to sign up to sell cookies. Our neighbor's daughter has been in it for years and the neighbor told us there was a huge blow up about the cookies a few years ago because the kids who sell them get almost nothing for doing it. It all goes back to the top.
When my kids were selling girl scout cookies (admittedly several years ago), the troop got 23 cents per box sold. That number went to 25 cents if they sold several hundred boxes. IIRC, the cookies sold for about $3.50 then.
Ever since then, I have refused to buy girl scout cookies.
