I fight this battle with my adult children as well. They assume they can always pay with card....until they can't. There have been multiple occasions where I've had to pick up the tab (e.g. ice cream, beer, etc) because the venue is cash-only.

Kids I get.... the concept of what constitutes "an emergency" is different when you're younger.

"But I was really really hungry!!".... or "they didn't know what that guitar on the wall really was at that pawn shop". :helper:

I'm sure we've done a version of this at some point, but hey, we're on MK55 now, so why not?

I have some cash at home for emergencies, but absolutely no way I'm going to carry around wads of bills just in case... Haven't seen a cash-only place in nearly a decade.

last summer i went to one of our local golf courses for 9 holes and there were several guys in the pro shop rooting thru their wallets.
the person behind the counter said "our computer system is down, so we can't take cards". i pulled out my wallet and plucked out 30 bucks and went golfing.
the other guys had to go somewhere else.
hence, always have 40-50 in my wallet.
that's not big wads.

Same here, I typically have $50 - $100 in my wallet. Also not big wads, but enough to cover minor surprises like the register/network being down. That's happened more than once.

In those cases they prefer you to just bank transfer it on your phone and show them most of the time  Most, especially smaller, businesses want to have nothing to do with cash, it's a pain in the ass and it costs them time and money to deal with.
