Keep in mind that order doesn't matter. That is, 2 x 3 x 6 is the same as 3 x 2 x 6, so there is no reason to have repeats like that in your set. You are still missing one in your set, however. So if we only look at unique combinations we have,

1x1x36, S=38
1x2x18, S=21
1x3x12, S=16
1x4x9, S=14
1x6x6, S=13
2x2x9, S=13
2x3x6, S=11
3x3x4, S=10

Does that help?

Since you confirmed that age was to be considered integers, I dismissed B1=, B2=6, B3=6 since, in this case, there is no oldest brother.

But I still don't see the solution.

And I should add that if you are trolling me, I'm going to ban you :)

Goo duh is how I say it. I've never heard any other way. And I watch a lot of cooking shows.
Edit: Looked it up. Apparently it's like howda but the h is a guttural sound.

Haha, no, I'm not trolling you. You're just so close to solving it that I wanted to give you the satisfaction of doing so. I'll give you one more nudge so that you can, but I've also included the solution in the spoiler below.

Do not dismiss the 1/1/6 combo, then look at all the combinations again, read the original puzzle again carefully and ask yourself why this might be important.

Examining the possible combinations,

1x1x36, S=38
1x2x18, S=21
1x3x12, S=16
1x4x9, S=14
1x6x6, S=13
2x2x9, S=13
2x3x6, S=11
3x3x4, S=10

Each has a unique sum, except for the two S=13 combos. However, the original statement said knowing the sum alone was not enough to tell their ages. This implies that one of the two S=13 combos must be the solution. Only one of those combos has an oldest, as you observed. Therefore, the solution is 2, 2 & 9.

To quote Tom Magliozzi of Car Talk: BO Oh Oh Oh GUS!

Your initial problem statement did not state the the piece of information you say that it did.

Ah, I was referring to poppet/puppet.

Also, the plural of cash is cash, not cashes.

Probably a russian meme-bot at play here.

Yep, it's definitely a totally serious ad from a Russian trying to launder money to Godless Communism through puppetry. And not an obvious joke.

You figured 'em out! :embarrassed:
