Just got back from voting

FWIW, I think it's a little crazy not to be strongly partisan in this political climate.

I don't think that "they both suck" arguments hold much water when it's bad and worse. "Well, I don't want to vote for Napoleon Bonaparte OR Emperor Palpatine, so I'll flip a coin."

This. While both major parties in the US have obviously been utterly corrupted by money, saying "it doesn't matter who you vote for, they're both the same" is just laziness disguised as righteous indignation.

yea....but yer still back to the problem of worse and worser. then yer left with the choice of not voting simply on the principle that both are SO bad for the country, that you cannot, in good conscience, vote for either one.

I have not missed an election since 1972. Like others, I hate the negative ads, but, as someone pointed out, many of them are done by PACS, not the candidate.

I firmly believe that all candidates should be barred from collecting money. You get a proper number of signatures and you get to particiapte in debates where you can state your views. Personal attacks would lead to disqualification. No paid ads, signs, mailings, etc.

I have several friends and family members that skipped voting because it's not a presidential election year and I can barely contain my fury. Especially since they're voting for the fucking GOVERNOR.

yep.....campaign finance reform......we need to go back to the publicly funded candidates.....the primaries decide who they are and then they get X $$ each and that's it. spend it wisely.

the way it is now, and especially since the U.S. S. C. ruled this past summer, the uber rich can contribute as much as they want, virtually silencing the votes of the rest of us.

Got back from voting myself. Always proud to get my "I Voted" sticker, even if, at least in the statewide and national elections, I am casting my vote into the void of the opposite "color" state that I live in. (trying to say that without getting political). Always glad to have my vote counted though. And in my local elections, it sometimes goes in the winning column!

+100 on campaign finance reform. This issue is a real cancer in our political system right now IMO.

Yep x100. Unfortunately it is no longer about the candidates but rather the corporations/industries/special interests that own them. Which obviously means its not so much about you and me any more either.

Although I will say we had a candidate at an event we did a couple weeks ago who was a complete douche. I didn't vote for him because he was a douche to me personally. I'm such a badass.

One slight problem... The real powers that be (influential, wealthy people and corporations) will never allow campaign finance reform. That would leave them out of the power loop. Their PAC's and special interest groups already author much of the legislation and pass it to the supporting congressional puppets that they own, so such a bill will never get off the ground.

Now if it were up to the people (you know, the constituents congress is supposed to represent?), the improvement would have already happened and the country would be a helluva nicer place for all.

Not just campaign finance reform, but also campaign reform period. It'd be really helpful to have popular vote elections, it'd be really helpful to have instant runoff voting, etc. Not gonna happen.

it would be helpful to eliminate the electoral college. that is the one thing that GUARANTEES the rich/corporations win, no matter what.

At least now my phone will stop ringing off the hook from all the political ad phone calls.

I'm on the do not call list, but the government has decided that political campaign calls don't count as advertisements

Basically I have to turn my phone off during the week during voting season, since I work 3rd shift.
