Just got back from voting

I made sure to vote because of the people running for our local school board.
That is something that gets overlooked but could be one of the most important things on the ballot. Those folks help determine how our schools operate, which in turn determines how our children learn and how they will function as adults.

That's a big part of why I made sure I (and my kids) voted today. We have a bunch of local county races where we're trying to get rid of the good ol' boy network. The guy running for county executive is in the local developers' back pocket and has enough cronies on the board that always follow his lead to push the developers' agenda through. He's turning our county into one giant strip mall.

I don't vote for people that I don't know who what they are or what their platform is.

I do however, vote (sometimes against my party affiliation) for whoever I think will do the best job.

And yeah, they're mostly all fucktards and lying sons-of-bitches.

But if we don't vote, we don't get the right to complain about how fucking stupid they are.

And I like to have the right to complain, because invariably, every single one of them is going to do something fucking stupid.

EXACTLY. I hate it when folks bitch and moan, but then openly admit they don't vote. It is also unfortunate that so many folks feel the need to vote, but are totally uneducated and just vote for the guy "because they recognize his name". This just furthers the douchebags with the most money (usually gotten from special interest groups), who have the most advertising winning the races for no good reason.

one of our senator's and our governor were up for reelection this time.....and both ran very good, no poo throwing ads.....telling us what they've accomplished in the past and what they would like to accomplish if reelected. voted for both.

everyone else was shit pitching....didn't vote for any of them.

don't t tell me how bad the other guys is....tell me what YOU are going to do and HOW you're gonna do it.

i've never really understood the whole negative campaign philosophy. "i'm a jerk, but the other guy is a douche".....how is that supposed to get folks to vote for you?

of course, the whole dem vs rep thing is maddening. that is.....they'll only vote for their own party, NO MATTER WHAT!!

the guy running in their party could be joseph stalin and they'd still vote for him.

i think it's time we have a NO party system. if we have to raise some taxes a little, then do so.
if we have to cut some spending here and there, then do so.

BUT FIX THE DAMN SYSTEM......stop being part of the FAILURE!!

my 3 cents

I just got back from voting (first time I've voted in NH.)

Old-school paper ballots that you use a pen to fill in the circle with.

:)

I love this state.

That's my father. He is a staunch Republican. He told me recently that when he votes, he ticks the "Republican" running box, even if he doesn't know who the person is, or what they stand for.

My response?

"And that, right there, is what is wrong with this fucking country, Dad."

If you're like me and you have no idea what the candidates stand for, especially beyond Senate/Gubernatorial... I found this to be a great nonpartisan site.

You answer a quiz with how you feel about issues. Most are yes/no questions but for most you have the option to be a little less black and white with your answer. You put in your zip code and it shows you the top candidates for each seat based on how closely they align with you. I recommend it! A quick way to know who you should vote for if you're like me and don't follow this stuff day to day.

yep.....and you know what else.....i am sick and fuckin' tired of all their damn "platforms" (both sides)
screw yer platforms....and yer freakin' "core values".......how about just helping us keep our jobs and make a decent living and stay the fuck out of our personal lives.

Especially in presidential elections, nobody actually votes for the guy from their party. We're all just voting to keep the other guy out. Talking about yourself is a waste of an expensive TV commercial if nobody's interested in you.

I have several friends and family members that skipped voting because it's not a presidential election year and I can barely contain my fury. Especially since they're voting for the fucking GOVERNOR.

My only worry is that once I've responded and receive the list of candidates who align with my views there won't be any names on it.

I used to work with a guy that told me he'd click the "straight ticket" box, then go ahead and vote for each candidate in the party too, just to be sure.

I wonder if that invalidated his ballots?

FWIW, I think it's a little crazy not to be strongly partisan in this political climate.

I don't think that "they both suck" arguments hold much water when it's bad and worse. "Well, I don't want to vote for Napoleon Bonaparte OR Emperor Palpatine, so I'll flip a coin."
