Joe Satriani... I don't get it....

Eric Johnson does a lot of wide interval playing within a pentatonic framework..rather than the stock licks we'd recognise. he also makes more use of some of the less used "box" positions for the pentatonic..

I've noticed this as well.

Also, if you watch some of those Shawn Lane instructional vids that are up on youtube, Lane used the same intervals/box positions as Eric Johnson does.

You know though....saying that Eric Johnson mostly sticks to pentatonic scales is like saying that Michael Jordan was a pretty decent basketball player.

Well, pentatonic scales are just part of the equation obviously. I actually think the biggest thing is his articulation, the way he touches the guitar..that's something that is unique to all of us as it happens, but Eric has a such a light and deeply musical touch..every note get's it's own time and space. Working on that will probably get someone closer to Eric's style than blazing through pentatonics.

Eric Johnson is another often mentioned guitar player who I just don't enjoy. I can see and hear the talent but most of what I hear I just don't care to hear more than once.

Baimun and I have argued about articultion before

I use my pinky, but not as much as the other fingers...
fits good in a nostril though

This'd be a good tune to do for you guys cover fest thingy. Even if it has been Sportscenter'ed to death :embarrassed:
