Is Van Halen Metal or Hard Rock?

The more that I hear certain people insist that Van Halen has relevance, to more convinced I become Van Halen was the soundtrack of 1980s frat house sexual assaults.

Kingdom Come did it first.

Northern Ireland, at that moment, Led Zeppelin were not cool.

I remember listening to that with my two older guitar playing friends (who I really looked up to) who were huge Zepheads and they were constantly screaming out for anything Zepish. Like, scouring any song for Zepishness. And of course devouring Deathwish II, Outrider, and the Firm.

And it was all shit. And they thought and knew it was all shit.

And it wasn't so bad for me, because at that time my whole teenage thing was about just constantly riffing the Sex Pistols and The Ramones and I hadn't felt betrayed by Never Mind The Bollocks or Rocket to Russia (I had earlier failed miserably at trying to play Mark Knopfler.) But I did watch that Atlantic Records birthday show and think 'this band I like have lost it' . And I did feel disappointed.

I was anti Led Zeppelin for a while in my teen years. In middle school, I would claim that Black Sabbath was much better. That was a very controversial statement at the time.

I have come to see them both as equals. There are not too many bands that put out great album after great album with little to no filler songs.

I think they are just Van Halen. They kind of don't fit in either space, and also have some dance tunes and shit. I think they kind of created their own niche of "So Cal Part Band" thing...sort of like ZZ Top created "Tejas Rock". Debate the merits of those things amongst yourselves, but to me they have always just been the only real band that fits in that space.

You become Van Halen and sexually assault unconscious women like you’re at a 1980s American frat party?

Your sentence needs a couple added words to make sense. It’s like you were all mad or excited at how clever you were when you were typing it.

Thanks for the heads up. I have edited my post accordingly.

But you needn’t worry; I haven’t been excited about anything in at least 6 years.

You are spot on. I like to tell a few jokes before I log on to avoid premature ejokeulation.

You know you like a joke if you enjoy its company after the punchline.

Much like primitive man ascribing agency to inanimate objects, I like to ascribe emotion to graphology. It makes dead words on an Internet forum come to life.

OK, now I’m offended.

Just kidding. I don’t really even like Van Halen. I just like the idea of Van Halen and feel more comfortable in a world where Van Halen exists.
