I say unequivocally yes! in fact it is one of the greatest albums of all time.? The range of music and emotion...total fucking masterpiece....yes ?

Probably?

I dunno. I’m gonna reserve final judgment until I’ve seen a few other would-be contenders.

But, to be fair, the competition in this field — the prog field — is notoriously weak. It’s like asking “is the rooster with the biggest cock?”

The prog field is like the metal field....very diverse in styles.

Well, yes. But that doesn’t mean that any of it is very good.
always bad with good...allways cuz that's the nature of the world BUT Genesis, RUSH, Electric Wizard, High on Fire are good and then their is the cross bands like Tool who are both metal and prog

speaking of Tool and i say this not lightly but in all honesty even though I am firmly with TLLDOB but Tool's Lateralus would be a contender......amazing album with a range of emotion and complexity.

I think you are confusing progressive rock with pop. Easy to do since they both start with the letter P.

Nothing progressive about a genre that had about 5 decent years of creativity before repeating itself over and over for decades with minor variations.

You had me until ‘RUSH’.

So you are making a solid case for TLLDOB here. Hmm.

I don’t know if it’s the GOAT or not, but it’s in my personal top 5 for sure.

I still remember the first time I listened to it, my last summer living at home with my parents. My first thoughts were, “Hmm, pretty weird, and the sound is kind of muffled or something.” Then a couple more listens and I’m all “Holy **** this is eating my brain!”

Is it even the best prog-era Genesis album?

After all, over on the website prog archives, the Genesis album 'Selling England By The Pound' won their poll of greatest prog album of all time.

I'm going to vote for Foxtrot just because I think Supper's Ready is the best prog-related thing anyone has done.

Court of the Crimson King, maybe. I dunno, I really only like Genesis and King Crimson. Unless you count Pink Floyd as prog, which I really don't.

Pretty much. And Belew-era Crimson is the best Crimson, because they did something that is pretty damn unique in prog rock:

1 — They actually were kinda progressive.

2 — They actually kinda (gasp!) fun and funny.
