I think my main problem with The Lion King is that Simba was a stupid moron and an idiot

Sorry, I just can't get philosophical about The Lion King. Maybe because I'm turning into this...:old:

The problem isn’t that you’re getting too old, it’s that you’re too young.

@smurfco just hates West African mythology and, to a lesser extent, Shakespeare. Attacking The Lion King for its plot is just plain foolish. Yet another illustration of why @smurfco should be locked in an attic somewhere. With a few hungry lion cubs, perhaps.

Harsh. Perhaps you'd rather just drop him from a cliff into a heard of stampeding wildebeests.

There’s a document that’s circulated in Hollywood studios about myth, loosely based on Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces, that is the basis for most of the plots for animated features. I used to have a copy of it from my days at Disney. It was used for the original Lion King also.

As an act of rebellion I also circulated an article from American Scholar titled The Myth of Joseph Smith amongst the young intern wanna-be future directors.

Let's face it. These bastards just want to get you to go to Disneyland, and turn a box office profit in the process.

Last time I was in the Serengeti it was in East Africa and anyway the hyenas are the heroes of the film which is as Smurfco remarks somewhere a damning indictment of hereditary monarchies (of two of which I’m a citizen and I certainly takd their point)
