I leave for army basic training in less than a week

I have no experience on military stuff, so I will just offer you a heartfelt good luck.

Basic is a mind game. The physical part is the easy stuff.

Man, Ft Jackson had a freaking hot summer 25 years ago...I will never forget it.

How long does basic last for?

I never thought I'd say this but after 10 months out here, I don't think there's much the armed forces could throw at me physically or mentally that I wouldn't handle relatively easilly.

8 weeks. In that time, I lost maybe 10# of "baby" fat and came out 20# heavier. That's +30# muscle.

5'6" 125# - 145#

Have fun. Basic is a mind game. Lots of yelling and screaming and lots of physical labor. No actual beatings from the Drill Sergeants, but you will feel like you have been beaten by them after a while.

What's your MOS

Good timin'! You'll get through there before the really hot weather hits.

I did basic there on Harmony Hill and then AIT at Ft. Jackson 42 years ago.
sweet. I still think the weather might be a tad brutal though. I'm from San Diego :embarrassed:

5'6" 167  yeah, I'm a fatass. I'm about 15-20 pounds away from my fighting weight. I'll be very shocked if the Army can manage to get me back in fighting shape. I'm certain I won't gain any muscle mass.
Goodbye, troll.

 Don't worry. I'll be back

I'll have more gear too

I spent 7 years in the British Army. As the whole world know the British army is the best army in the world at being British.

Seriously though, there are times when you'll feel like throwing in the towel and going home. Wearing green isnt for everyone. You'll know within, say 6 weeks or so if its for you.

Good luck, and when youre getting yelled at, dont take it to heart too much. The fellas yelling at you are just doing their job, as time goes by theyll start cracking a few jokes with you and as months go by you might actually begin to think theyre ok.

As long as youre just a teeny bit above averagely fit and youre not stupid youll be fine.

Maybe he'll learn some manners. I'd love to see the beatdown he gets when he tells his DI that Patton was the architect of crap tactics.

Benning is in the foothills, so it's not bad - can get cool at night.

That's a BMI of 27 - 30 is obese.

More like 20-25.

Funniest thing I've read in a while! lmbo

Best of luck to you - and stay the hell out of Alabama.

- When they tell you "Do not go there", they mean "Do not go there."

There's no way I'll lose 20 pounds in 2 months at basic training. I've got it to lose but it will not happen in two months.

They probably won't let you have internet access for the next month or so, but be sure to get back to us and let us know how that's goin'.

 I was under the impression I might not be back until after my schooling

no matter what happens I'll be bock :thu:

u wanna take me up on the bet? I have some pedals and miscellaneous guitar stuff

Whats wrong with Alabama then? Forrest Gump was from there and he seems like a nice bloke.

That, by the way, is the extent of my knowledge on Alabama.
