These are my "go to" shoes.
I had a friend who wore those close toed types in the kitchen at the Sun Valley Ram restaurant. He insisted on closed toe leather ones due to kitchen hazards such as knives falling, pots and pans, hot oil or grease, etc. The toes on those things looked pretty hammered, and apparently did the job. He was, unsurprisingly, from somewhere near Eugene, can't quite remember where, in Oregon. Good skier, kayaker, and photographer too. These are my "go to" shoes.
Put the shoes on your feet, not your knees.
Nike Metcons or Reebok Nanos. They are Crossfit shoe, and they have a protective coating to prevent the tops of them from being destroyed during rope climbs. They should stand up to the floor. They are on my feet. The problem is if you are on your knees, the shoes are upside down. Doesn't matter how much money you spend, nobody makes shoes that will last, with the wear on the top.

Awesome! I get 50% off at Reebok because I’m one of their certified crossfit and Olympic Weightlifting coaches, but I don’t get anything from Nike.I pick up Metcons and Romolos from the employee store for a buddy every few months. If you want, I often get 30-40% off e-coupons for nike.com. Next time I can send one your way.
