How The Hell Did They Screw Up The Muppets So Badly?

There's a girl I teach, (the first autistic kid I've taught with a genuine American accent as it happens) that sounds like gonzo :/

Perhaps part of that was that the original was a spoof of an old variety show, which don't really exist any more.

That, or maybe the only redeeming factor was the musical aspect. Overall, the writing was horrible. The musical part was genius.

I find a lot of things like the old Muppets show don't age well, and they don't always handle revival well, either.

I dunno......maybe it's because we're getting older, and kids today have no idea who the "Guest Stars" are that were on the original Muppet Show.

I saw an episode recently (it was a later one of the original show) and I thought it was pretty funny.

Oh, and the clothes were pretty funny, too. :)

Lots of flowers and bell-bottoms and white patent leather shoes, that sort of thing and baby-blue pant suits......that sort of thing.

Groovy, baby!

I'm not invested one way or other. My kids are all past the point of watching stuff like that sadly, and I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to watch it either.

One thing for sure though, the "Journalist" that wrote the article in the OP used an inordinate amount of words to voice his grievances about a fucking kids television show with puppets as characters.

I have serious concerns about both the mental health, and journalistic integrity of a grown adult that would descend so deeply into an act of dissecting a show about the fucking Muppets.

Creepy as fuck.

Well, that's the thing... It's not a kid's show. It's an adult show starring puppets.

Does that change your perspective?

From the original, the old men usually stole the show.

No.

It's still a television show with Muppets. I find the depth of his analysis disturbing. Critics in general are self absorbed, bitter wash outs. Trying to flex your intellectual muscles by writing a prolonged dissertation about the sociopolitical nuances of the new Muppets series is a dichotomy deep fried in futility and smothered in a generous helping of fail sauce and served with a side order of a lightly sautéed medley of narcissism and obsessive self doubt.

Still creepy as fuck.

Kinda with OGG. I don't think it's creepy, I just don't see the point (apart from trying to show how intellectual you are) in writing a lengthy piece about the Muppets talking about "issues" most folk probably didn't even consider.

And Miss Piggy was always a bitch regardless of how much Kermit loved her :embarrassed:

Million Moms are a couple of thousand ladies with a she-boner for the PRMC days and only organize online outrage. They're an optimistically named sewing circle of irrelevant Helen Lovejoys.

And what's with the fucking name? "Moms"? So just because you are capable of bearing children, and have done so, you somehow are elevated to a pedestal of moral judgement that should be respected above other social groups?

"Oh my, 9/10 people in this room think this show is funny. But that one over there, she has a functioning vagina and a kid to prove it. She hates the show. We'd better respect her opinion and cancel it."

BTW -- we have been watching, and imo the show gets better with each episode.
Agreed on both of these. I've been enjoying it, and they've really been doing some funny bits about the Kermit/Piggy breakup. A lot of those "what was I thinking" moments from him, just like anyone who's gotten out of a bad relationship with a crazy woman. Funny stuff really.
