How The Hell Did They Screw Up The Muppets So Badly?

The unflinching camera work didn't make it any easier, nor did the later reveal that Sam the Eagle had been watching the whole thing on CCTV.

Drugs, man. The bald eagle symbolism was a little heavy-handed (spying on civilians, ignoring violent acts on minorities, trivialization of sexual assault, etc.) but it really hit the mark.

I've seen the commercials for it and the new Kermit voice sucks green donkey dicks.
Sorry kids, but the Muppets died when Jim Henson died. :(

Million Moms are a couple of thousand ladies with a she-boner for the PRMC days and only organize online outrage. They're an optimistically named sewing circle of irrelevant Helen Lovejoys.

Fuck Miss Piggy. She was a manipulative bitch back then, too.

The type of women who see her as some kind of role model are no different from men who modeled themselves after Gordon Gecko.

Mrs G said last night "I don't know any man who would tolerate being karate chopped on a daily basis." She doesn't blame Kermit for bailing on the abuser.

I can't believe I'm talking about domestic abuse and muppets.

I was watching the Disney episodes of American Experience, and was struck by a similar thing with regard to Snow White, the first full length animated film. Disney and his artists wanted to test their craft by seeing not only if they could make people laugh at an animated character, but whether they could motivate people to suspend their disbelief and even cry at what happens to the animated characters. They succeeded. That is somewhat akin to what Jim Henson was able to do with The Muppets. At least in my mind. He made people care about puppet characters. And how those characters related to and talked with the children on Sesame Street I think had a lot to do with it.

I watched it. It was actually better than I expected it to be, and better than a lot of other crap that gets aired, so I'm not sure what the negative review was all about.

As far as the million women protesting...I think that's just where we are in this country these days. No matter what someone does, there's always a group that is outraged by it and wants their 15 minutes of air-time.

There was a line that Kermit had about dating Piggy that I thought was pretty funny. I can't remember his exact words, but it was along the lines of, "when we were dating, I found her energy, quick temper and love of attention quirky and fun. Take dating out of the equation and I see now that she's just crazy". I laughed at that one.

WE'RE NOT GONNA PROTEST!

WE'RE NOT GONNA PROTEST!

GUTTER IS A TOOL!

WE'RE NOT GONNA PROTEST!

:embarrassed:

I didn't watch it.

About a year ago we did put the original Muppets Show on our Netflix queue.

I'm sorry, but the original was pretty cringe worthy as well, at least the first couple of seasons.

Watching old episodes of The Muppet Show is indeed pretty difficult. Unless you are rather intoxicated, then it's pretty amusing :thu:

Yeah, I never was that into the Muppets. Muppet Babies on the other hand, was an awesome cartoon.
