Monson
Sonic Automatist
This has been bugging me on and off for years. This song often pops into my mind but I've never been able to figure out what it is and who made it. It bothers me a bit.
Probably released in 1985-86? I'm quite sure I heard it in '86 first and had it on a mixtape. It's a fairly typical/mainstream '80s pop production. It kicks off with a rather dramatic (church?) organ or synth intro. It's slow to medium tempo. Male vocal (IIRC). Possibly the first line is something like "You don't have to..". The chorus is an ascending three-note thing (three whole notes, I believe) and then a lot of whoa oh oh whoa oh oh.
I've tried asking various AI services but they were all useless.
