Question: HEAT CHECK - Would I like to post a thread to gauge the interest in possibly maybe having a "Smurfstock" get-together in Austin in May (or September)?

No not yet... I figured if it's in the fall it might make more sense to wait until june or july to set a date. I certainly don't know which weekend in September will be best at this point, I don't plan that far ahead…

but anyone who finds themselves in Austin or the vicinity sometime should definitely stop by and say hi

I was just letting him know I would be around for some kind of SXSW adjacent something that weekend.

Dude asked me last week if I wanted to be on it. I think he was looking for a favor on something else. I have another podnah heading that way that I’ll tag along with.

This is one of the people I played a gig with this past weekend. The last song he played was a Bobby Charles tune. I made a comment that I would’ve played BC tunes all night. To which he said you want to play some now and we sat on the patio of the bar for another 2 hours doing just that while random Lafayette people walked in off the street.

I say all that to say, I hope smurfco is available that Saturday night because we’ll probably be picking late night with other songwriter types and he should come play some tunes.

i've been thinking about it recently… I might not have access to a space quite like @baimun unless we were to rent a rehearsal room, which honestly wouldn't be that much. But I've got a decent sized space here at my place, and there's plenty to do in Austin. Let me think about how we might do this!

I had also thought that since the grilling and beer drinking give off Tailgate vibes, a future event could be around a Notre Dame tailgate. Like we would set up early in the morning, hang with people up until we start playing at Noon or such, guests could rotate in on songs, then kickoff at three, teardown and watch the game at a local bar....

... dunno if you ever do tailgate gigs, but I'm sure you've got a nearby school with good times, and something like that would be a great atmosphere.... we would just need wristbands or VIP lanyards to distinguish the MWGL weiners from the rest of the normal tailgate community. Approaching a non weiner and asking if Howie brought the artificial crab meat -> :messedup: :lmbo:
