Has #MeToo impacted your listening or viewing at all?

When Cosby got all preachy I knew something was up
My favorite part about that was...

Something that I am struck with in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein accusations & conviction is how many people either knew of or directly aided in his actions to protect their own seat at his table.

He might have received a taste of justice for his actions but there's got to be a huge laundry list of folks in Hollywood who share in the guilt but will never be touched by justice.

#MeToo is not the revelation that women are people too.

It's the revelation about criminal actions by individuals in the entertainment industry, mostly against women but also against men as with Kevin Spacey.

I also think the blanket suspicion about women fucking their way 'to evil goals' is part of the problem. And why people did not believe Weinstein's accusers in the past.
They didn't believe some of the Weinstein accusers for the very reason he was not found guilty of all the charges against him because one was willing to suck and screw her way up the ladder, then became his girlfriend. It was wrong of him sure, but that doesn't remove the fact that the women did it. One of the stories about one of his attacks simply made me wonder well how hard did they try to stop him because Harvey had to stop, stick a need in his dick, then wait for it to get hard and then continue the pursuit. A couple of the victims noted they watched his shoot up his dick. A man with a needle in his dick, I would think, is fairly vulnerable. If you waiting and watching that, you're waiting to get screwed. You're not making an escape attempt of someone who's holding you against your will raping you.

There are no emoticons.

NO! You should investigate the victims to ensure they are victims and that no innocent person is ever convicted of bullshit. Every day there is someone be released from prison who's spent 20 years there where DNA evidence determined they did not do it.
We should of course always believe the victims.

I'm guessing you're not on board with the whole idea that a person leveraging their power to coerce someone to have sex with them against their will is rape.

I stopped listening to Warren Zevon years ago after reading his autobiography. Just awful. But I was never a big fan.

The big one for me is Cosby. I still make all of his jokes. I just no longer give them the proper credit.

I had that reaction with The Who after reading Townshend's book. I adored The Who, but he's such an asshole, and revels in his assholery as if he's the victim. And, he just may be a child molester...

Cosby is still a big one for me. I grew up with the Cosby show and the Cosby kids, and just seeing a picture of him makes my skin crawl.

Spacey is another big one for me - I really really liked his work, and thought he was a fantastic actor, and now he's just a slimy sexual predator.

I'd love to be able to separate the art from the artist.... because there are many cases where you enjoy something and don't really realize what a complete fuck-waffle the views of the artist are.

Case in Point... Cerebus the Aardvark by Dave Sim

It started as a parody of Conan the Barbarian comics... and then elevated quickly with the introduction of characters who were a) based on a historical or literary character... while simultaneously b) drawn or voiced in a way that referenced someone from pop culture. Example, "Elrod of Melvinbone" is an obvious mock up of "Elric of Melnibone' by Michael Morecock", but voiced like Foghorn Leghorn (or Senator Claghorn). Absolutely hysterical stories.... I bought all the early "phone books" which were several hundred page collections of the individual comics.

The art was further elevated when Dave started using artist "Gerhard" for backgrounds.

Here's the problem.....

... later stories from Sim got more and more misogynistic... to borderline hatred of women. It not only made the later stories dark, depressing, and infuriating (it's one thing when a character is written to be a shit heel, but when it comes across as the actual voice of the writer, it's a lot uglier).

Dave Sim should be commended for being the first Creator/Artist/Writer to successfully publish 300 sequential issues of a comic, and being a trail blazer for collected editions.

It's just too bad that his view are so abrasive and, frankly, disgusting... that I read the early issues and try to block out everything beyond that point as to not ruin them completely for me.

Well, that sucks. Similarly, although it's not a #MeToo thing, I can't read Dilbert since Scott Adams outed himself as an utter twat waffle.

Yeah... they're both pretty depressing... Dave Sim just strikes me as someone who would spit on any #MeToo defenders because of his disdain for women.

Honestly it is tons of his dumb hot takes over the years.

https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Scott_Adams

his opinions on evolution, the holocaust, consent, etc. are always terrible. But he can’t stop himself because he thinks he is the smartest person ever. And only the smartest people ever appear on infowars (no, i am not kidding he has).

add to that he totally changed his comic from criticizing corporate culture to being a boot licker who looks down on employees not the bosses.

Just wanted to revisit this a year later.

No. Not at all because I had respect for women before there was a movement. Women are not angels. There are women who will lie and cheat and suck a dick and fuck there way to the achieve their evil goal just like men. Women have equal rights and I think of them as equals. They're as big a dirt bag as any man is and can be.

And, in hindsight, really regret not having said “WHAT THE FUCK???!!! #PartOfTheProblem”
